happy beta-day
Oct. 17th, 2003 10:35 amThe beta meme:
My longtime betas have been two:
gabbyhope who is my longest-time beta, in fact, and one of the people I've known the longest online, and who does lovely comfort betas and always leaves me breathless with pleasure but also feelings of inadequacy because how can any of my fics be as good as she claims them to be?
eyebrowofdoom who is my hard-hitting beta to whom I turn when I am worried and want no-holds-barred critique, and then I always get it in the most thoughtful way, and that is a hard thing to do and I am most thankful for it but also conflicted because it's difficult to look at your own fics that way, and that is why you need a beta in the first place. But her points have always been spot on.
There have also been sundry others, roped in for this or that:
lazulus and
freyafloyd and
shinysparkly. I smooch you all! And further back still:
snowdome,
mauralabingi,
verylisa and, unforgettably,
cimorene111.
But I haven't used any beta for many a month. This is not because I don't think betas are a wonderful thing. It's for mental-health reasons. I have, in the past, over-invested and over-angsted about my writing, and I need to lighten up and just posting, without attributing too much weight to a fic in the form of excessive revision or beta'ing, is what I need right now.
Not that this prevents me from excessively revising all on my own...
