rec blake's 7
May. 2nd, 2006 09:36 amI read this long story last year and am not sure I ever recced it. It's Blake's 7, a sci-fi fandom I know absolutely nothing about, so I read it as orig. *g* It is what to my mind is classic slash, in the Kirk/Spock mode. It's also a wonderful take on the Aliens Made Them Do It model (since become so popular in SGA).
It is about manly men and their angsts and manly resistances to manly love. It has the classic slashy separation of lust and love so that there are very hot moments of sex with love repressed. It is also quite plotty with a rather extended sub-plot including world-creation which is quite nice but to me, not the heart of the story. It has resonated with me since so that I find myself thinking about it now and again.
There's an added melancholy because the author has since died. I never knew her and I must say, it was odd and poignant not to be able to feedback somebody because they are no longer around to receive it.
The author is Pat Jacquerie, and the fic is Duty.
Note to self: Add this to my del.icio.us.
