After many weeks of globally warmed mildness, snow fell today. I opened the front door and heard whooping shouts of glee echoing in the air from streets all about. Children threw snowballs and rolled huge lumps for snowmen. Schools were closed (this is England; snow in winter in the northern hemisphere is here regarded as 'severe weather').

The trees are already green again. The snow is coming down in small stripes, quite fast -- which means it is wet. Grass blades push up darkly through the white cover. The cat sinks in up to his knees and makes fussy high steps. Cars slither. In the middle of the road, there are two dark parallel tracks, filled with what looks like black crumbly sand.

The sky is an unbroken dull white.

This morning the snow was puff-powdery.

[livejournal.com profile] thamiris is back! And she's alive and she's okay and she seems cheerful.

This has made my year. I am so relieved and happy.
