I am despondent today but I am over 37,000 words which was my goal because I never get to write on Sundays so must think ahead. Looking at my nanowrimo excel spreadsheet, I note that my mood-meter makes no difference to my word output. I can write a lot of words when my morale is at '10', and I can write a lot when my morale is at '5'. (I've not slipped below 5 yet.) The statistics are actually really helpful: the morale goes up and down; the daily word count is sometimes zero; but overall, the word count goes steadily up, and who knows which passages I will like and keep when this is all finished, and if I'll even be able to tell what was written on a 'good' day and what on a 'bad' day? And even the blockages and blah-blah crap, I must keep telling myself, contribute something good because they might point to a dead end.

Also, yesterday, instead of writing I spent rather a lot of money shopping. There's a new Zara shop in town, and omg, do I love it. It has now replaced Kew in my affections. I bought there my VERY FIRST LITTLE BLACK DRESS! You know, that little classic number, invented by Coco Chanel in 1927 or 28. And I look fabulous in it!! I gasped when I first put it on! It has a high, bunched up neckline which is just what my neckline looks best in, and a cut to die for. It hides all the flaws and accentuates all the fabulousness. So I went and bought a fabulous sixties retro jacket to wear on top of it, and fabulous pointy FLAT LACE-UP shoes! I can be elegant and follow FlyLady's dictum always to wear lace-up shoes!! (Plus, I can't walk in high heels; my back hurts after 3 minutes.)

Then I ran to Accessorize and bought my very first non-utilitarian handbag evah, a red satiny clutch number with a chain for a shoulder strap, and a sparkly ring. I realised that I'll never have a girly teenage daughter and that I never was a girly teenage daughter, so now I'm just having to be my own 40-something girly daughter. So there.

But really, I looked todschick. When I get round to it, I'll upload a pic of me in my killer outfit. Of course, going to London it promptly rained on me but still, I was the best-looking babe at the dinner! (Well, there were only two other women, the rest were men, a typical donnish situation, but STILL!!!!)
