the earth shakes! wraith pride
Feb. 27th, 2008 01:32 amI just felt the carpet and the table shudder, and I thought, 'ah, it's just me', and then
ukcalico posted that the earth shook. An EARTHQUAKE!! In EAST ANGLIA!
Also, I've just posted my wraith fic to my betas. I am so proud that I have finished it!! Or finished this penultimate draft, at least. I have never written a fic that went through so many drafts. It's like a real revision type of story! I discovered a joy in doing it. At one point, I had almost given up on this story. I started it in May 2006. It was in so many bits, all over the place, and then I sat down and cut and pasted, literally, with scissors and a stapler. I labelled paragraphs 1, 2, 3 and then I grouped all the 1s together, and all the 2s, and then I did it again, and again. And it had its own joy! A different joy from writing in the first flush of discovery and excitement, more of a deep-down satisfaction and a really getting to know the story.
And when I re-read the 2 parts that I'd revised in this way last week, I was so excited and proud! I love this fic!! I owed it to this fic to finish it! And all the revising really, really made this story. Because I know how humbly it began.
The fic is called Ichor. It's 30,000 words long. It's in parts (liek it's structured and all!!). It's John Sheppard/wraith from 'Condemned' (see icon), and that alone is enough for me to swoon in bliss that I managed to pull it off. The very idea of John trapped on a desert island with this wraith makes me cream every pair of knickers I own, practically.
