nano triumph! *airpunch*
Nov. 20th, 2009 11:21 pmomg For the first time this month, I am ahead in the word count! I have trailed at 2,000 words for most of the month, sometimes falling behind that a little, but a steady 2000 words behind. Today, I powered out an amazing 5,609 words! And now I have 33,634 words which is 300 more than needed!

The funny thing is I've spent since Arvon (mid-October) trying to re-start this novel that had ground itself into the sand. I kept going over and over the first chapter. I didn't want to forge ahead (as I did two years ago when this was my nano novel in a previous incarnation) blindly, so I just kept re-writing that first chapter. I found out more about the character and more about the setting and more about whom she knows, and I smuggled in some steamy sex (once a slasher, always a slasher) but I just couldn't get the voice. Something didn't feel right, no matter what I tried. And then yesterday, 'bing', it came to me all of a sudden, and I sat down, and it flowed.
And today, it just kept on flowing. I found the voice. And once I had the voice, the rest is absolutely no problem, just tweaking. I just write out everything I've already written out five times before but without looking over these earlier bits, just remembering like a sleepwalker, and keeping a tight hold of that leash of the 'right' voice, and it's wonderful.
It's worth putting in the time and churning out the rubbish for times like these. It does pay off churning out the rubbish.
:-)
Oh, I also saw New Moon with the boys. Some redeeming features but a lot of boring blah-de-blah longueurs. Nice landscapes. I still like Stephenie Meyer's writing, though; it has something that strangely satisfies my inner teen. The movies don't so much, although I enjoyed the first one. But egads, the cinema rocked with girlish sighs and shriekings! Teh teenage son was quite overcome with embarrassment at even being seen in this company and kept slinking down in his seat and slumping into his hoodie and groaning, 'o god, o no', every time the girlies shrieked.
