Well, obviously not wizards. Hah.

But do witches?

Do witches menstruate?

P.S. What else to post after eleven days' absence after all? *laughs*

More anon.

i'm glad you're back - was much with the missing you.

I would think they do. They are human. And they have children.

I bet they have some nifty spell for cramps and bloating, though.

Of course we do. Witchcraft is tied to the female cycle of birth and fertility, after all, which is why the moon is considered so important. It's not considered a negative thing, as it is in many cultures.

How do you mean 'are you kidding'?

As in: Are you kidding? We have babies, don't we? Of course we bleed!

Or as in: Are you kidding? Why, if you have the Power of Potions, wouldn't the very first thing you'd brew as a pubescent girl be an anti-menstruation concoction?

Well, but wouldn't you, if you had the power, brew yourself an anti-menstruation potion double-quicktime??

And slip in a contraceptive brew, while you're at it?

And then rut like the bunny that you are??

I'm not sure they are fully human, actually. Most of the people in JKR's universe seem to be missing that special humanity chip, as far as I can tell.

But yes, the baby thing. Either they menstruate and brew themselves potions to suppress it until they want to conceive.

Or they don't conceive in quite the way we do.

They can do magic. We can't. Surely the genetic differences don't stop there...??

Er... we? (Have I missed something along the way here?)

But yes, aha! I am with you there. Ye olde witch plus cycles of moon and ye tides lore. I like this line of arguing and will revise mine own olde ideas accordingly.

*ponders*

Not that the witches in JKR don't seem thoroughly 'secularised', as it were. I can imagine Hermione scoffing on that moon stuff as superstitious clairvoyant claptrap.

I concede this point.

Although maybe witches lay eggs...? Is there anything in canon to deny this???

good point. but there is nothing in canon to affirm this either. the only case of a person laying an egg, which i can think of, would be Leda.

i consider witches people with magical powers, but then i've never given them much thought.

of course, in LOTR, wizards were sent to Middle-earth by the Valar and so is are completely different entities.

The piggies...! Well...

So much for the myth that guinea sows don't fight! Those guinea bitches fought and *bit* each other. They had to be separated from their host piggies. Today, I observed them and one of the host guinea bitches bit a chunk of fur out of our Polly's bottom! Plus chased our Meggie round and round-- she squealed! They also made threatening clicking noises with their teeth!

It was like DAvid Attenborough.

Well, magic folk reproduce, so I assume witches menstruate. Moreover, magic folk can reproduce with humans, so I assume we're of the same 'kind'.

Yeah, sure, JKR doesn't mention it. But I realised this morning she hasn't mentioned the boys voices breaking, nor any of those other interesting little embarrassing quirks of puberty. Possibly because her story really isn't about those aspects of growing up.

Exactly, what would all this witchcraft otherwise be good for? Combining this with a contraceptive brew's very creative, too. Should all be part of a standard work: How to become a happy witch.
