Hello, everybody, I'm back! Did you miss me????

I was first in Mannheim where resideth t'sister and her by-now four children, incl. an incredibly cute and alert and troll-like seven-week-old new addition, and then I was in Bristol where tooketh place the conference for which I convened a session. And guess also what, I was elected to be a member of the executive board of my professional organisation and now I am, as they say in the U of K, 'well chuffed'. (This means 'pleased' in common parlance.)

My session went phenomenally well. It was very exhausted, and I am now ill with lack of sleep and excess of travel and have no voice, but hey, you don't need a voice for LJ! I think I have a natural flair for organising people; everyone said how relaxed the session was, and how productive, and people stayed for 45 minutes at the end simply to discuss the issues! I loved talking about my own topic for two days, I have to say. And I enjoy (although it is also exhausting) convening, introducing people, shepherding them when nervous, soliciting questions, tying points to points people made the previous day, and all that stuff.

T'h has taken to talking about 'His Holiness'. These are not words I am used to hearing around our demesne but thus is the fall-out of being wed to a Catholic. Now t'youngest son has started saying, 'Can we go to church? I miss the Pope!'

I didn't get that job I applied for, bugger it all. So I'll be stuck at my present crap of shit for a while longer, I guess.

*goes off to shine oven*

Oh, and while in Germany, I bought myself two things called Schreibmappen

and I am still drooling. I'm not sure what these are called in English (portfolio bag? conference folder?) but I love and lick mine and used it 24/7 at the conference. *caresses said item of stationery*

I've also progressed in writing bits and blobs with Draco and Dudley. It is a fucking difficult fic to finish, I have to say but sometimes it is very swoonsome and mostly just obsessive. I think I dug my own grave with it because it is conceived in a very straightforward, no-nonsense prose style, and I'm not very good at that kind of straight-out storytelling. I tried to make it humorous (didn't work at all, too angsty -- what is to be expected from such a pairing and such an author?), and I tried to make it more metaphoric but that also didn't work, it didn't suit the characters. So I'm stuck with this prosaic style, and it's the bane of my writing!
