Hi! I'm back! How have you all been?

Pointless update (pointless because I do not know how to make bullet points in html so will type in hyphens instead):

- In Holland, we went ice skating on this phenomenally fabulous ijsbaan in Alkmaar!

- I got on with my parents wonderfully! Especially my mother! Those of you who remember the Dark Christmas of 2002 will appreciate the miraculousness of this and take heart in your own family conundra.

- I wrote lots of pages of Harry Potter opus in a notebook, acquired specially for this purpose!

- I played oodles of Mah Jongg.

- I gave myself a Brad Pitt calendar for Christmas!

- I haven't read any fic in weeks so does anybody have good recs? Or can point me to a post that lists such?

- I spent ten days basically lounging and eating. (When I wasn't skating or playing Mah Jongg.)

- I have made a happy house of male couples in The Sims. They are called Hurricane, Bic, Dragon and Roddy. These are thinly-disguised names, as you no doubt immediately guessed... (but my family will not, I hope! Despite uncanny physical resemblances. Although they are all wearing pink tops, shorts and wellie boots...)

- I took a woman friend's keenness to see Brokeback Mountain at its word and immediately rang up to book tickets, and I strong-armed t'h into babysitting both our and her children, and I am going to see Brokeback tomorrow evening at 6 pm!! To quote the Kaiserchiefs: o my god, i can't believe it

- Omg, I really can't believe it. I am delirious! I am spoilered silly by reading everybody's posts on this movie and by drooling over spoiler pics more than is strictly legal. I have dreamed about this movie and I haven't even seen it yet!

And hey, y'all: I am so happy to be sharing my fifth consecutive year with you lot!! Here's to 2006! *squooshes you all*

I loved Brokeback Mountain! Ang Lee at his best, and heath Ledger blew me away, he lives that role and brings such depth to it. In fact, all the acting is very good across the board. The landscapes are gorgeous and the way they are shot is stunning. Can't wait to hear what you think of it. :)

Oh and, I am so pleased that you had such a great festive season! As someone who does indeed remember the Christmas of 2002, I am so happy to hear that you got on so well with your mother.

*hugs*

Welcome back!

Amazingly enough, I was thinking this morning, 'gee i haven't seen a post from lobelia for oodles of time wonder if she's OK,' and nice to see you're more than OK!

5 years! ooooo!

I have to go see if they're releasing BBM anywhere in my vicinity (meaning closer than a 2 hour drive away on scary freeway).....

Good news is it's doing incredibly well per screen even in the "heartland" (aka the midwest which is sort of north of where I am, *gestures vaguely*), amassing both major critical raves *and* good box office in the U.S.

Everything you just said. *nods* I can't KEEP saying enough great things about this film. I've seen it 4 times already & it just keeps getting better.

Bless Ang Lee & Larry McMurtry & Jake & Heath for doing Annie's work proud.

Welcome back! So glad your Christmas was lovely- like some kind of Hans Brinker-esque ideal.

mine, on the other hand, was ghastly, almost to the point of being hilarious (now that I've emerged from my catatonic, depressed state: http://www.livejournal.com/users/brightest_blue/296474.html#cutid1

How weird that Brokeback is doing well in the place where it is set. Is that what you mean by 'heartland'? So they are not as bigoted as they are shown to be in the short story?

Can I spoiler, by the way? Have you read the Proulx origfic?

Well, I've seen it now and posted my review. To sum it up: disturbed and disappointed. Ang Lee at his best is Wedding Banquet, though. Heath is very good although he overdid the accent somewhat (I kept thinking, come on, where's that Aussie drawl? as he mumblemumbled).

Everyone is so totally gushy over this film I have the need to be irreverent!

No mother stuff, just life stuff. And that all seems to depend on whether I sleep well. Bad sleep engenders existential despair :-(
