lobelia321: (sga eldon rodney)

I have done it again. I do this in every fandom I stumble into. I seem to hit, with an unerring sense, upon the rare and the weird. Because I am reliably informed that in SGA Eldon/Rodney is, apparently, rare!

A quick search through LJ interests just confirmed this. There are only four other people besides me (I've just updated my interests -- yes! I am absurd!) who list 'Eldon' and one of these is 'Eldon, Missouri' (not Eldon c/o Pegasus Galaxy) and another one is definitely not SGA and a third one hasn't updated for 38 weeks. Googling Rodney/Eldon got no fanfic! Where is the good stuff hidden? Is there not even a community? There is a community for Lorne/Parrish and they appear on screen for all of three nanoseconds while Rodney and Eldon clearly have chemistry!

Heh, because despite my supposed and professed disdain for canon, my rare pairings are always wildly canonical.

To celebrate: a new icon! (Courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] sophrosyne1972 who predicted it all. The iconicity, that is, not the rareness.)

Ok. Don't hit me, but ... who is Eldon?

Oh, oh! I've just noticed your icon! He's the alien scientist chappy, isn't he? I loved him! I really hoped we were going to see more of him after he went back to Atlantis with them, but then he was never seen again. And you're right - they so have chemistry!

Yay, Eldon! :)

Yes, yes, fantastic, you're with me on this! Eldon stares adoringly at Rodney! And Rodney interacts with him! Also, Eldon reminds me of Baldrick. ♥

Yes, yes, you're right! And now, of course, I've read back further in my flist and found your actual fic, which is open in a tab! I now have 84 tabs open in my browser. Yes. 84. How did this happen? I have no idea. And I have designated this evening as 'getting online stuff done' evening, so please keep me in your thoughts as I commence this arduous, yet fun, journey. :)

84 tabs??? This is insane.

I can't manage to keep tabs open. I keep hitting propeller-W by mistake and closing them. How do these tabs all fit onto your toolbar? And WHY?

I have it so my tabs fit on two rows. They go quite small, so it doesn't really look like 84 tabs. It's therefore quite easy to ignore my own insanity. Of course I can't really tell what they all are without hovering my pointy-arrow over them.

As for why -- I've got into the habit of using tabs instead of bookmarks. I'm constantly opening things in new tabs 'to read later' and then leaving them there. And because I have the Firefox extension called Session Saver, every time I open Firefox, it's exactly the way I left it, tabs and all. The vast majority of these tabs are probably fics. I go through recs pages and just open up a bunch of likely looking candidates in new tabs, 'to read later'. Some are fics I've read awaiting feedbacking or adding to del.icio.us. There also appears to be some stuff about Latvia, for reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture, and some info on Czech universities (you might be able to guess what that's about) and some screencap pages, and some stuff about the twelve apostles (I was going to write Easter fic for a while there).

This clutter of tabs is basically an extension of my bedroom, which is an extension of my mind. Insane.

[livejournal.com profile] oddball_sga. In fact, I was planning on pimping your fic there.

I'm trying to find some sanity inside the insanity, and I think it is this: the tabs replace bookmarks. Now, I bookmark with gay abandon, and then I never look at any of the bookmarks again. So the tabbing sort of makes sense.

Also, having a Radek-fic-in-the-making in the form of tabs redeems the entire enterprise in my eyes.

And apostles!

Yes, that's it! This way, I actually stand a chance of getting round to reading the things ... eventually.

i have no idea who eldon is, or rodney, or lorne, or parrish, but i do know my own name when i see it (even when you elaborated on my numbers! but that's okay! more numbers are cool! like tattslotto!).

and yes i am uncannily prescient, only because i too fell into that chasm of iconage and now have 95 of the little suckers! keep it up! no one does icons like you do, lobe.

Eeek, wrong numbers! I copied down your email username by mistake! *slaps self* And it's sweet of you to say that about my icons because I am hopeless at icon-making, I can hardly even format the text and it's been years since I dared merge two separate pictures (which was FUN because I got to make Dom and Karl hold hands and Dom and someone else kiss, can't remember whom, that boy is so promiscuous -- Duck Taylor, perhaps?) but now, all I do is choose. The trick is to find good screencaps pages and then do some judicious cropping. But I do envy those who actually get down and creative with their icons.
