real-life student cross-over

I am reading an undergraduate disssertation. A student is using suspiciously familiar terminology and showing herself to be confidently at ease with a certain fandom into which I also have an insight. Two clicks and I'm in her tumblr. Another click and I was in her AO3. (What is it with this younger generation? We were so sekritive in my day!)

I feel shamefacedly stalkerish. Fortunately, this student is graduating and will not haunt my seminars in future times.

Have others have such experiences? Has anyone ever outed themselves to a student? Or creepishly read their fic and left pseudonymous feedback??

I am not going there. But just wondering.
