lobelia321: (irreverent + sensible)

Going back to LJ to post Desert Prince ancient!fic (from 2003, and apparently even earlier to judge from the comments, argh), I re-read some of the comments / feedback. Really, it brought back with a sharp pang the whole flavour of LJ interactions, so absolutely opposite to all that is "social" media now.  The banter, the fun, the back-and-forth, the hyperbole, the joy and the love.

I'm pasting some redacted comments into my AO3 uploads. They are as much a part of the fandom archive as the fic itself, if not more.

If you are at all interested, you can read them here on AO3.

Or behind the cut: (ETA: and now with correct "cut"; it's been too long that I've used this!

Here are the original comments from LiveJournal, April 2003. I have redacted them a bit. I want to preserve my feedback. And also this gives a nostalgia-inducing, archivally-important and preserve-worthy flavour of the social exchanges, the banter, the fun, joy and love of LJ in its heyday.

freyafloyd: I'm agog. This kind of fic is what slash should be all about. I have high hopes. I am off to read the next bit.
lazlet: I'm with her above. Am thoroughly enjoying this!

eyebrowofdoom: Ooh, silver scimitars...

thejennabides: Lobelia! I am tormented. For, judging by the headers, you have written or are intending to write SB/OB. But then there is not only character death but character murder. You know I am just a tender soul. I don't know if I can withstand this...

brightest_blue: Oooh, oooh, I remember this! You started this ages ago! I'm so glad you're going to continue. Off to read the next part.
Lobelia321: You remember it!!! *thud* I got so little feedback on it last year that it left me quite discouraged. That and my scheme of finishing the entire thing before posting -- which, as I have since discovered, is not *me*. I simply cannot do it. I need that fb drip. But you remember it!! How can I repay?
brightest_blue: By writing really, really fast? ;)

cupiscent: *goggles* *giggles* Damn, and I threw out my copy of Johanna Lindsey's "Captive Bride". I can't wait. This promises to be bodice-ripping at its best, except without the bodice. *eyes Mir and Liv* But hopefully with some nice harem-pants! Am I forgetting anything? Oh yeah... *swoons at the Desert Prince's feet* *and scuttles off to read part 1*
cupiscent: Ahem. I have just re-read the cast list, and I have a very important question: Where the hell is the Viggo, yo? That is all.
Lobelia321: *rolls eyes and takes sip from china-sprigged rice-grain tea cup, gloved little finger cocked* I mean to say, I post half a page and what do I get? Orders here and demands there for whatever other boy to be included. I've got the Curly One centre stage -- what more do they want? *dabs lips with folded-up lace hankie* (I definitely need an auntish icon here.)
eyebrowofdoom: Honestly, the peasants are revolting...
Lobelia321: When I conceived this and started writing it last year, I was in my deepest Viggo-resistrix mode. I did not like the man, so I did not even notice that I had not included the man until viva_gloria wailed and pointed it out. But too late: everyone had been cast. This time round, having mellowed Viggo-wise, I tried to see if I could fit him somewhere but there really wasn't any role for him. I may insert him as a pedlar of pantoufles or a turbaned envoy, if such a part should arise. Heh. But why bemoan Viggo-yo? What dismayed me much more is that I could not find parts for Jed or Bern. :-(
cupiscent: You know, if you resist Viggo, you just make him more interested. The muse loves a challenge. *wicked giggle* I knew Gloria would have backed me up on this. Or I'd be backing her up. One way or t'other. We are the Viggo-sisters or something. Viggo and the back-up singers. Ahem. I see Viggo as a Magi, actually. You do have Magi in this, right? Djinns, Efreeti, wicked purveyors of sorcery and love philtres. Yes?But! let me not to the beauty of this admit imperfections, as it were. Sorry if I come off ungrateful, but I did squee for, like, a whole comment before I started whinging. *beams innocently* And there's more, I see. I shall save it for a time when I'm not in a library computer lab, and can hence giggle myself stupid. Yepyep.
