I'm off on another research trip tomorrow. I will be in Chicago, South Bend, Philadelphia, Baltimore and New York City.

It won't be as lonely a trip as the Europe one because I'm staying with friends in nearly every town.

Back on Tuesday, 20 May.

:-)

That's ages and ages! I was just thinking about emiling you as I haven't in ever such a long time (I seem to have mysteriously grown a Real Life. It's perturbing.) but I suppose there's not much point now.

Have fun! (And can I just take this moment to snicker at the name 'South Bend' because there must be a double entendre I can get out of that...)

*snorts uncontrollably*

Ack! There's *always* a point!! The States have an internet! Ack! There are probably email access points lining the streets!

Heh, I can now call you 'miss' professionally.

What? The New World is online already? Why was I not informed of this?

Heh, I can now call you 'miss' professionally.

Oh, my...I had to go on a tour of the school with the other candidates yesterday, even though I've been there for months already, and every time I came out a of a classroom there were thousands of children outside all chirping "Hi, Miss!" at me. It's getting a bit old now ;) I have actually been called Sir a few times, which is weird.

Hah! Maybe I should call you Sir!

I don't think they actually took me for a male teacher, unless they were extremely short-sighted. But, who knows? Maybe they thought I was undercover, a la cross-dressing detective Geoffrey (why oh why did I miss that episode? Why?)

I was in the DVD shop the other day and saw that the BBC have released a load of lame old shows on DVD box sets for sad people (like Keeping Up Appearances, etc) and must admit to getting a little frisson at the thought they might release Hetty on DVD. Then I realised that I could never, ever get away with buying that without incurring ridicule for the rest of my life, and they don't sell it anyway.

But I'll be teaching Media! Surely there's some way I can incorporate a study of badly acted, slow-moving detective series into class?

It's the Yorkshire aspect. You've got to capitalise on regional relevance.

Are you quite mad? Whatever you do, don't let anyone hear you saying that. It's set in *Lancashire*. Lancashire is the sworn mortal enemy of everything Yorkshire (except when mocking Southerners, when all in the North must unite). It goes back to the War of the Roses, you know. People round here really know how to hold a grudge ;)

Have a lovely trip!

And just for safety: you definitely mean Haribo Lakritzkätzchen, not Katjes? Because I only recalled Schnecken as Haribo's main licorice product, and I want to get you exactly the thing you crave. *ignored how that sounds*

Oh my god! You're right! I've just dug up the empty Lakritzbag from the bottom of my Papierkorb (thank the Lord I'm messy) and yes: it is Katjes Kinder!!!! Hartlakritz, *mit* Calcium und Eisen!!

Katjes it will be then. :-) Anything else you're jonesing for? I imagine it won't be possible to ship Bauernbrot without some considerable loss of quality, but I'm eager for suggestions.

lol, I hope at least it was a pleasant heart-attack! *loves Orlando for being openly affectionate*
