I just checked to see how far my recent re-conversion to the world of Bloom had taken me.

Pics on hard drive:
Total (excluding Dom, Karl, Orli): 247
Dom: 219
Orli: 122 (!!)
Karl: 114

Karl has slipped to third place! Orli who used to languish at around 70 pics has, in the last few weeks of Malta-induced obsession, soared!

The situation is worse in icon-land:

Total number of icons: 10
Of which:
Duck 1
Ned 1
Domfish 1
Jed 1
Karl 1 (!!!)
Orli: 5, i.e. half of all icons, incl. default.

Ack! *runs away to escape the hollow sound of [livejournal.com profile] badgermonkey's mocking cackles*

And to think that earlier today I got an email from an irate reader on the lists, telling me that my boring!Orli was an insult to the sweet, nice man that Orli is in real life. *splutters into coffee cup*

I just thought of something. No doubt my re-found Orli-love and concomitant loss of interest in Karl has to do with the whole therapeutic mother visit and decision not to post karl/dom epic. It seems to show that it was Karl who was my Mary-Sueish-standin problem in that fic, not Dom, as I had previously thought. Because I've got no probs with Dom. I can pair Dom with anyone. But I'm suddenly finding it hard to pair Karl or even to characterise him. Jed-fic was last gasp of that.

Dom/Orli, however... I have zillions of bunnies.

What happened to my Manly Men? Help! Otoh, hey-ho.

122 is not very many at all. well, in 4 years, Orli will be a manly man. except, now that he has shaved off his moustache/goatee thing, he looks so young.

The future manliness of the pretty has been throwing me into fits of confused swoondom for months.

Dom with a podge!

Orli with flesh on his bones!

Lij with bones!

122 is not many. Yes, but think: that represents an increase of around 50 over the past 4 weeks.

Oddly enough, that is what I thought when I read it. When you said it was Dom, I figured I had it wrong and bowed to your (obvious) greater knowledge! Only goes to show.

p.s. Will send you pix from Sunday tonight after my book group has left!

Oh, you should never bow to me! I'm struggling to gain clarity here. So now I am intrigued to know why you thought this, why you thought it was Karl? Yet I didn't realise until today?

(Heh, and it's certainly not the Lakritz!Karl on this icon. Have deleted all other serious Karl icons in order to make way for forelocks. And perhaps my unease with the Karl pics is yet more proof of Karl Sueism; I even replaced my faithful Karl hand which has been my desktop icon for months with my Midsomer freezeframe moment.)

So now I'm asking myself the question: If it was Karl Sue, why did I get the characterisation so wrong? Or rather, why is it so patchy? Hm. Maybe *because* he's Karl Sue, and I didn't want to go to many places in myself so I couldn't send Karl there, either.

I have to rethink that fic now. Because Karl as Sue confuses me. But it rings true.

*appalled*

Poor Karl!Hand!!!! 'tis truly a slippery slop.

Will give more thought as to what exactly it was about Karl that made me think that and talk to you about it when I see you next, if you like. (are you still planning to visit the BL in July?) I do think though that you are right when you say that maybe you couldn't go there with him as he was too Sueish. I do still have lots of thoughts about the K/D which I am happy to talk to you about if you should so wish. I meant to write a long email, but haven't had the chance and anyway, so much better (and nicer) to actually talk to you in person!!

you have more Orlando icons than I do.

*blinkblink*

there is something impressive yet unsettling about that.

I always feel vaguely guilty when I have more icons of one person than another. The only way I can justify to myself to have my billy/dom icon as well as separate icons for the is that they're sharing one there, and in their separate icons there are only little bits of them showing.

And that was way more about my weird habits than you needed to know.

*laughs uproariously*

You feel *guilty* about icons?

Now that's the art of guilt perfected to levels as yet unattained by me.

But don't worry; I'll get there one day.

Dude, there is no limit to how neurotic I can get. You should have seen me when I first started replacing my NSYNC icons with the LotR ones. Because it was uneven to begin with, and just arrgh.

It's perfectly possible to be sweet, nice and boring.

But I'm suddenly finding it hard to pair Karl or even to characterise him.

Tch! And just as I was finally prepared to believe in him as a real person, too... :)

Heh. I forgot to mention this in my reply...

Nobody's stopping *you*!

And also, I'll get over this. It's not Karl!Karl I've got probs with, anyway, it's Karl!Sue. Thus spake the auto-therapist.

You got a flame? Bitch! No one ever sends me flames. The best I get is rather luke-warm and eloquent suggestions that perhaps Miranda was a selfish bitch and Orli deserved better.

Well, I tried to construe it as a flame but it was written in complete sentences and tried to maintain a polite tone. So it wasn't really a flame. But the person was annoyed all right!
