I need fic!

And I need something I don't normally read. Could you all rec me the one fantastic fic you love from another fandom that is not Lotrips? Please?

Don't rec your own.
Rec only one fic per fandom.

Thank you!!

*sits back and waits for 88 recs*

My own recs:

A Diamond between Wood and Stone by Pythoness. (Lotr fps, Gimli/Legolas) One of the sexiest stories I've read. Gorgeous language. And beautiful, erotic pre-movie characters.

Solitary Creatures by Aristide. (Sentinel, some men I'd never heard of) Porn as philosophy. I loved the interior pov during sex. I loved the *manliness*.

The Way You Do It, by helenish. (NSync) Unfortunately, the link is broken and the fic has disappeared off the face of the internet. If anyone knows where to find it, tell me!

In Principio, by [livejournal.com profile] thamiris. (Bible. God/Devil) Stunning. Metaphors come to life. Metaphysics as porn.

Beasts, by [livejournal.com profile] eyebrowofdoom. (Kelly Gang, Ned Kelly/Joe Byrne). Spine-shivering 19th C. idiom. Gorgeous.

Unnamed fic, by [livejournal.com profile] badgermonkey. (Wainthropp. Geoffrey/Mr W) Strangely elegiac. Lingers like a Rich Tea biscuit. (It's a locked post so you may have to get yourself on her Friends list to read it. If you Friend her, she'll Friend you back.)

And In Arcadia I by [livejournal.com profile] kitsune13. Harry Potter incest fic, heartbreaking and beautiful-sharp. I can't dig up the link from work, but it's on her website, and you should be able to get there via LJ.

Ha! I got here first!

*nysncslash: Rhys' "Two Straight Guys in Wisconsin"
(her website is http://www.illuminations.nu/experimentv/, if you need that)

Highlander: Sylvia Volk's (gen!) The Good Student. The sequel is pretty good too, but this, as it stands, is one of the most perfect fics I've ever had the pleasure to read.

Due South: Crysothemis' True North. (It was hard to *not* rec Speranza's "Enduring Distance" here, but... True North still wins.)

Sentinel: Another gen story -- Martha Taylor's Plank -- uh oh, my link is broken. One of the very very few horrific stories that I'd ever rec.

Background (http://www.fanficwithfootnotes.com/sa/background.html), by Ryo Sen and Jo March in the West Wing fandom. A heartbreaking, angst-filled. Another possible outcome of the events of In the Shadow of Two Gunmen.

Dark Reflection (http://www.nickmidian.com/index2.htm), by Nick Midian. Buffy AU set in the Highlander universe. Epic good fun.

Left-handed (http://www27.brinkster.com/swiiirl/fanficlefthanded.html) by Ivy (Harry Potter, Hermione/Pansy) Fascinating narrative. Thoughtful and very sexy. Furthermore, it's an excellent femmeslash, which isn't easy to come by.

It's long, but it's worth it. You do need to know a bit about the band going in, though, especially because this is a "what-if" fic that does not follow the post 1986 timeline at all.

"Reprise" by the Gemini Twins (Duran Duran, John/Nick slash)

China by torch. X-Files/Highlander crossover. Longish. Sex, cooking, satanic goat mystery. I've never actually seen Highlander.

<a href-"http://www.waxjism.net/pickle/stories/reign.html">Second of our Reign</a> by Wax Jism. I bet you're just gagging to read all these Harry Potter recs, aren't you, Lobelia? ;) I liked the tender, melancholic Remus/Sirius relationship in this story, amongst other things.

Don't think I'm not archiving this thread for when I want to get out of my lotrips box!

And here are some for you.

Borderlines (Faculty, Zeke/Casey) Angsty beyond belief, but still gorgeous.

Ordinary People (sort-of Good Omens fandom). Just the sweetest love story about grownups. Details are fabulous.

Snow White (Beyoncé/Jewel) really affecting fem popslash, totally different, surprising, intriguing.

are there any restrictions on fandoms or genres, or will you read anything regardless of your familiarity with it?

Although, hm, noting the number of recs I've got already, I can't promise by when I will have read all these.

Well, I've just counted and you're not up to 88. Yet. ;p

Actually, the only fic coming to mind right off the top of my head is a Peter Pan fic that was originally rec'd, months ago, by [livejournal.com profile] ficlicious. I rec'd it in turn, but I can't find the link now. No matter.

I will definitely dig it out again when the new film version of PP comes out. Starring Jason "The Perfect Man" Isaacs as Captain Hook. Jason counts as a manly man, right? He's my only one, I think. Surely he must count. Johnny Depp doesn't count, because even though he is 40 now, first of all he's called "Johnny." And second of all, look at him. He is Peter Pan! No wonder Orlando is in love with him.

Yes, but as we have now learned in the Land of Spoilers (oh, how I love that formulation!), reading books *because* of movies is EVIL.

Bwhahahahahahaha! *evil laugh* You asked for it!

Boston Confidential. The first slash fic I ever read, when I was still very much into Dawson's Creek. *evil grin* Pacey/Jack, and it's actually not bad. Very smutty. Most certainly one of the best fic I ever read in that fandom, and contrary to popular belief, there were quite a few good writers around. Am not sure about now, have left it for too long. But yes, that was my first slash smut ever, and I loooooooved it. *grins*

And then, there's Smallville slash, of course (I blame [livejournal.com profile] zarah5 for that particular unhealthy addiction): When a Strawberry is Pushed into the Mountain. Clark/Lex, lovely with a small touch of smut.

I Had a very hard time picking only one popslash story to rec, so i chose the most recent one I enjoyed a heck of a lot, here it is: Postcards from the Animal House. Fun crossovery zoo trip, really fun. Though not smutty at all yet, but damn good.

Last but not necessarily least, a small Harry/Draco rec

*kicks browser* Stupid aol kicked me off when I was trying to add that HP rec to the list. Should I have seen a sign in that? Oh well, I'm still going to rec it, because I know how you feel about HP, but you did ask for other fandom recs. ;-) So....

Dancing Queen by [livejournal.com profile] mistful. Very funny story, that. And Dudley in leather pants. Needs to be read just for that particular image, trust me. *grins*

Moss, Sable And Jade (http://gaby.slashcity.tv/raven/xfiles/01moss.html) by Raven. X-Files AU - a medieval-ish thing that sounds like it couldn't work but is so beautifully written that it captivates you. Long, WIP, involves Mulder, Skinner, & Krycek in sort of difficult to describe combinations.

Hrm. Well, as the local X-fangirl:

It's cheating to recc everything by [livejournal.com profile] minisinoo, isn't it? (And a lot of it probably isn't nearly as enthralling to someone who's not shamefully addicted to the source material. But most of her writing's just plain old brilliant anyway.)

So I'll just say: you simply must read her brilliant X-novel, Climb the Wind. Brilliance.
