Latest count of pics on my hard drive:

Dom 214 (still my main man, it appears)
Orli 173 (a rapid increase of around 100 pics within the last 3 weeks!)
Karl 115 (oh no, poor pup is languishing; dropped to place 3 last week)
Rest of Lotr 249

I know, isn't this a fascinating post? Statistics scintillate.

P.S. Is there a soundtrack CD of VG??

I'm insanely happy to see that Dom is still your main man. Not that it should matter to me, but really, he should always be your main man. And what? Me? Biased? Naaaaah.

Well, I just changed it. *grins* I came upon that pic (which has Billy in the background as well, but you can't see him in the icon. The icon's all about Dom), and I fell in love all over again. Possibly my fave Dom pic for now. *licks icon*

As for the pics you linked in your other reply, I do love the pensive one, and the one with the green background. Veryyyy much so. Mmmmmm.... *rightclicksave*

So: why are you *not* a slave to Orlando, then?

Oh, dear.... We could be here all night and I might not be able to really tell you... I mean, don't get me wrong, he's pretty. I like looking at him as much as anybody else. But he doesn't really get my blood boiling. I've never been one to really get all a-flutter over the really pretty ones. Not that I don't like the good looking guys, because I do. It just lacks passion. I feel like I'm in a museum, looking at pretty pictures. Orlando falls very much into that particular category of actors who have classic beauty and soft understated charm. They don't make me drool. *grins* I guess Orlando is too nice, in a way.

I can name others I feel like that about... Brad Pitt, for one. Josh Hartnett, Johnny Depp... I love them, they're pretty, they look good on screen no matter what, they're good actors, but... to me, it feels like they lack something.

Dom... Dom's different. He's not bad looking, of course. Great body, amazing eyes... but he's not as perfect. And he makes up for it with sparkling personality. Dom makes me laugh. And that really turns me on. It's definitely why he's my favorite, because he's not perfect, not eerily beautiful, not pretty in the least... and just... mischievous is the word, really. The one word that sums him up for me. And what I like best in anybody.

If I look at all my favorite people, they're either big dorks, or good looking guys with a lot of humour. Like... uh... Dom, Al Pacino, Robbie Williams (I never said they couldn't be gorgeous, they just need to be clowns, too), Chris Kirkpatrick... These guys don't just make me go "ooooo, pretty", they make me laugh my ass off. And I love them for it. :-)

Orlando doesn't really make me laugh, though he does make me smile on occasion. :-)

What a gorgeous line! *swoons over the line* This could be the start of a fic! *swoons over the possible fic this could be the start of*

I know exactly what you mean about the pretty and up until 4 weeks ago I would just have shouted YESYESYES and we would never have had this fascinating comment exchange so isn't life wonderful? I mean, I am the woman who started the Manly Men list (and who has now shamefully all but abandoned it -- but only temporarily!) and who mocked at all those tonsilboy-lovers and who scoffed at all but the rarest of pairings, preferrably crew not cast and, if cast, preferrably orc. So I *know* the anti-pretty sentiment. And I had gone off Orli to such an extent that I didn't even find him pretty anymore. I downloaded no pic at all of him for about 6 months! The ext-DVD had totally turned me off him. Literally, to me he *was* boring!Orli!

So my recent rediscovery is a kind of wallowing in the mainstream gush. Heh. It's the curls wot done it, and the deep blue sea in those Mediterranean pics flashed at me by a mischievous [livejournal.com profile] lazulus. And I'm also recovering from angst k/d, so I just thought, what the fuck, Orli, here I come.

Also, I don't even *know* whether he's a good actor yet. You can't tell with Legolas, and you can't tell with BHD, and the only other thing I've seen him in is Midsomer where I swoon too much to be able to tell (er...) Also, Dom: acting ability? No clue. Also, strangely, don't care. Well, it's nice if they can act as well, a welcome bonus, but not *essential*, is it? There are actors whose acting I admire intensely but who leave my pathetic little fannish heart quite cool.

I do like Dom (and here Demelza and I are in agreement!) much better as Geoffrey than I do as Merry. The wig irritates.

But yes, Dom's not conventional. At the same time, he is a sex god.

Dom the Sex God. DSG (TM).

Well, Orli to me never really was boring!Orli. I didn't go all fangirly over him after watching FotR, but since I got into lotrips through [livejournal.com profile] zarah5's Cat, Orli wasn't exactly a fave, but I was never reluctant to read or write him, strangely enough. Now, Orli as Orlando the actor, I've never been big on. Like I said, too plain, too nice. What's funny is that I really don't mind reading or writing him, though. But I really really really don't understand why everybody's swooning over his curls. It baffles me.

It's funny because people in fandoms often think strongly about the various characters/actors involved. It's not rare to adore someone and hate another. But even if I really feel like a complete Dom fangirl most times, there isn't any strong feelings for anybody from me. Again, actor world and fanfiction world are two very opposite things, here. I don't mind reading any pairing/character. But I really do believe that even though I got into this fandom through Orli, I wouldn't have stayed long if it hadn't been for Dom. It's just weird to me that Orlando could leave me so indifferent in RL, and yet appeal to me in fanfiction (hell, the last thing I wrote was centered around his perception of the scene, so...).

Example: All those curly pics leave me shrugging. Yeah, ok, he's cute. Whatever. But you writing Boring!Orli? I'm all a-flutter! Same with stuff from [livejournal.com profile] thejennabides, or some others I've read recently. And yet, the pics still don't appeal to me. I remain indifferent to the curls. But that's just me, I don't mind others giving in to the curls!lust. ;-) And since I'm always fairly remote from fandom and pairing trends and such, I couldn't even tell you you were giving in to the mainstream gush, lol.

As for them being good actors or not... I agree with you, we can't really tell, yet. Though I've always kind of felt that Legolas was a bit overdone, you know? I always felt more at ease with the way Dom played Merry. But I'll want to wait and see more. What I do know is that when under scrutiny from the press and the fans, Dom is funnier, more lively, wittier and sillier than Orlando. From where I stand, Dom has more personality than most of them. He stands out. With or without his curls, Orli's just another pretty face, really.

And random, but... I sooooo want to be able to see some Hetty Wainthrop Dom, some day. Never got that here. *pouts* Wonder if I could find some on kazaa...

You need Hetty?

I don't have a video duplicating thingy but I can send you my Hetty (which I got from Demelza, bless her knitwear-wearing heart) and you can send it back after drooling to your heart's content.

Send surface address via email and Baby!Dom's yours!

Dom is funnier, more lively, wittier and
sillier than Orlando.

Ack, how much of Dom have you *seen*? I've seen pitifully little. But you are probably right because Orli always comes across as a bit of a giggler and goer-along-with-everybody-else. Do I, at the moment, give a fart? Answer: No.

I have no idea why I swoon over the curls. I never used to like long hair on men. I did like that pic I once dug up, the one of Orli pre-fame, in his student days when he had long hair and I was intrigued even then. It's slightly clouding my writing perception of him. But that will pass. So I'm going to swoon while I can because who knows, the curls may go under the knife tomorrow. The man's coiffure is determined by his career.

You will *squee* over Baby!Dom! Dom kissing the girl! *squees* Unfortunately, I don't have the drag scene. But much squeeage to be had, much knitwear, and many sultry looks between Geoff and Mr W!!!!

Which one was Zarah's 'Cat'?

i'm surprised you haven't tried goggling for Dom info. the place to go is the unofficial dominic monaghan site. way back when, this site was run by someone called sharon who knew Dom. the new webmistress doesn't, but has retained all the stuff which Dom sent sharon. when you're at the site, look out for the q&a and, in the articles section, check out the mademoiselle article called 'this hobbit's life' and the letter Dom sent sharon in december 2000. you will start appreciating his brain then. there's also a chat transcript which used to be available at billyboyd.net where Lij, Dom, and Billy participated - Dom was way too funny! and his typing was atrocious! unfortunately, it's been taken down.

Mmmm... Ugly, I can't agree. He's not gorgeous, but he's cute and charming enough, me thinks. Embarassing... yeah, ok, I can grant you that one. But that's incidentally also why I like him so much. *grins* And runt... uh... I wasn't aware he was small... but ok, tell you what. Why don't we agree to disagree on this one, uh? Cuz I really do adore him. I actually have all of the Take That memorabilia to go with my love for him. He was always my fave. *grins* Did I ever mention my shameful lust for boybanders?

Now, [livejournal.com profile] ukcalico explained the whole popslash thing to me the other day so I now finally sort of get the attraction of it. Heh! Drool away! We only live once and the more droolage we can pack in, be it over the most trivial of persons, the better.
