Bedazzled by the acqusition of the Velvet Goldmine soundtrack, I naughtily showed the sons Obi-wan Kenobi's waggling willy (TV Eye, for those who've seen the film). Am shameless.

I tried to package it as a history lesson: 'Yes, look, that was what rock music *used* to be like, in the 70s...'

Older son: 'That's the first movie I've seen with a willy in.'
Younger son: 'Yuk. Eurgh. No, it's not yuk, it's funny.'

Now they both want to be rock stars.

I proceeded to dance around the living room with older son to the tune of 'Baby's on Fire', brandishing a child's guitar and a hockey stick respectively in lieu of electric *gui*tars.

Takes me back to doing same when I was nine years old and miming to Cat Stevens and Gilbert o'Sullivan with the aid of tennis racquets and a drum kit made out of cardboard boxes...

Did same again later on that night in front of hubster who refused to participate as he has a sprained ankle (but no doubt might have otherwise except he knows I'm doing it for slashy reasons and is put off).

We all need to get together and do glam rock mimesis!

He says, Is this getting a bit obsessive?

Um. *Getting* obsessive?

He's put off by the nitty gritty, I think. He likes some of my fics (well, I've only shown him like, 3), such as Olives in Brine (humour) and When We Are Human (arthropods) but does not like Past Imperfect (emotions and sex). He looks on as an outsider and is tolerant but puzzled and definitely does not get off on it himself.

I never showed him karl/dom, only mentioned it to him.

okay, i do understand your hubster not getting off on slash. it's like femme slash for me. i might read a story if written by an author i like, but then i'd skim through the, er, nitty gritty bits.

tee, I only just now got the Galaxy Quest reference. Yes, am a bit slow.

And lovely to see we have another VG fan! *cheers* Maybe even four new fans, after you've turned your whole family into minions too.

Back in the old days, I made some .gifs from the movie, but since they were taken from video they are not the clearest quality. Still, you can go here if you want to take a look.

lol, alien references spawning lj confusion. Galaxy Quest, with Alan Rickman, Sigourney Weaver and Tim Allen. In that movie they play actors in a famous science fiction telly programme, who get abducted by aliens needing their help to save them from destruction by another alien (the bad guy). Rather goofy movie, predominantly mocking StarTrek, but I like it a lot. They had this minors/miners discussion too, when they landed on an alien planet.

How absurd. Now I'm replicating movie plots without even knowing it.
