I'm told the Pillow Book is kind of boring but perhaps one could forward wind to the "leathery scrotum".

Ah, no. I would not call The Pillow Book boring. Granted, nothing much happens and its pace is sometimes so slow that I can see how it would be painfully so for a lot of people. But the story is fascinating, and the way it's filmed is quite mesmerizing. I personally loved it. But yeah, it's not exactly action packed. :-) I'd still recommend it.
