I'm off to Zakynthos, Ionian island, on Tuesday. I may not have the chance to come online again before I leave, so in case I don't: see you upon my return in 9 days' time, everybody!

Apart from that: last year, I started writing an AU, provisionally called The Desert Prince . I am pondering its continuation now. Perhaps Greece may be of some inspiration... Actually, I need no inspiration. The whole AU is based on a dream I had at the age of 16.

Homer, Iliad (topogrophically topical -- alas, no pic of dreaded movie stars on cover; perhaps I will fashion my own cover, Blue-Peter-style, in the manner of a 'Sneak', 'Vogue Italy' and 'Empire' collage)

Neil Gaiman, American gods (courtesy of Friends recs)
Louis Sachar Holes (because of the lizard on the cover -- yes, I do judge books entirely by their cover; hang on, I amend that: I judge publishers by their covers, and if their judgement of one of their authors' books extends to the choice of a particular style of cover, I sort of take their judgement as a guideline -- also, I simply cannot abide bad covers, they irritate -- it's like typos and the misuse of 'lay' and 'lie')

James Fenimore Cooper, The Last of the Mohicans (part of my research on the 19th C., and also part of my ancestors-of-Karl-May quest)
General Lew Wallace, Ben Hur (again, part of my research)

That's it so far. I doubt I will be able to read all of them... Also, I doubt I will be carry my luggage with my naked hands, especially as I have not here included the pile of books to be packed for the sons, not to mention the husband's who likes to take hard-backed tomes... Books r us in this family.

And yes, Malta fic. Apologies to all and sundry but it will not be ready before I leave. It's only half-revised. But it's lovely. I do like thinking about it. (Heh, fic-tease supreme, c'est moi.) *gg*

The other day I re-read [livejournal.com profile] ukcalico's Subversion , and godfuckdammit, it's good. I fantasised about it for days after. It just reads like cherry trifle with whipped cream; the prose *floats* down my gullet like something delicious and cool. And it is so fucking hot and sweet all at the same time.

Anyway, will stop rambling and proceed to microwave my dinner. Then onwards to *24* and more torture-cougar-action. And then, fuck it all, there will *not* be any This Life (ack, fuck, shit) but there will be the British Open highlights instead, introduced by *Gary Lineker*. Actually, that more than makes up for it, sort of. Grmph.

I watched most of the British Open today but missed the final holes. Am golf slut. Any good Tiger/Vijay fics out there? Nick Faldo/Greg Norman? Hell, any golf slash??

Have a fabulous time! I have great memories of my few days on Spetsos in '78. Great thunderstorms, wonderful food, nice people. I'll be thinking of you and hoping you're having fun.

Iliad alone is enough to last for 9 days, especially with the necessary re-reads of certain parts. Except if you intend to spend all days reading, instead of exploring the island... which would be a pity, because it has some gorgeous spots. Just don't follow the tourists; go find your own hidden beach! ;)

Damn, I wish I could go too! But no, after a year without sun in England, I now have to suffer in Greece too! *pseudo-wails, but is secretly happy of upcoming movement to Japan* Muahaha.
