i'm back from greece
Jul. 30th, 2003 09:03 amHi, everyone.
I am not scrolling back through zillions of posts so, tell me, anything I Need To Know? Any good new fics? Any scandals? Any challenges? Any funny things to report? Any Friends that have mysteriously dropped off the face of LJ? Or, indeed, reappeared thereon?
Any new and sexy pics? (I just saw the Billy ones, ;-)
More detail on all of this later, possibly.
I took ten books and read 1 1/2 (predictably). They were Neil Gaiman's American Gods whose prose reminded me of
azewewish and which I liked a lot but with reservations.
I'm als 1/4 of the way through the Iliad (*waves at
orlisbunny*). More on which anon. It started slow but is now picking up. I read out a chapter of it to the family and it really does read better when read out loud: oral tradition, eh! It's got a great reading-out-loud rhythm, and can be hammed up or made solemn.
I got brown as a nut and learned to flee the sun.
The demon rode me, but only once.
The children were sweet as sweet.
The sun was hot, the food was good, the sea was salty, the pool was blue.
England is kind of moist. But it's going to be enjoyable to turn the brain back onto the 'on' position.
Package holiday is what it says: it turns you into a package and delivers you from place to place.
My leave will be over in under 2 months' time. My timetable for next semester is hell. On Mondays I will teach non-stop for 4 hours through lunch, then 1 hour break, then another 2 hours. AAAAACK.
EDITED TO ADD: Oh yes, and I had a plot bunny. Karl/Dom! I don't believe it. Wrote the first half in Zakynthos. And it's not even angsty!

Date: 2003-07-30 03:27 am (UTC)We are timetable twins; I have 3 full days a week and all my free periods on a Thursday, which is nuts.
And I read a little, unilluminating, article in the paper about Tonsilboy the other day, and thought of you (accompanying photo less than impressive, though, but then I would say that.)

Date: 2003-07-30 03:35 am (UTC)Timetable! Nightmare! I can't even think about it. Am too horrified. I have since found out that I have even *more* teaching than I had originally thought, including a *double-booked* session. This is what happens when one is not on hand to supervise these matters. They bugger you up the bum behind your back.
Tonsilboy! In the paper! As in, a *real* newspaper? Broadsheet format? Well, my intense lust of 2 weeks ago has abated somewhat and is back to manageable levels. Still, it's nice to be thought of, no matter what the trigger. I did think of you in Greece, heh, because of the seaside connection, *g*. 'tis, however, a rather different sort of seaside, methinks.

Date: 2003-07-30 03:33 am (UTC)Freyafloyd has disappeared off the face of lj but apparently Laz knows why. Er, I personally have done virtually nothing.

Date: 2003-07-30 03:37 am (UTC)I, too, know about Freyafloyd but I guess my lips have to be sewn together with hemp or some such. So that's okay then.

Date: 2003-07-30 07:14 am (UTC)Naturally I am unreasonably curious about freyafloyd but since I don't really even know her that well, I shall button my lip and merely hope for her triumphant return.

Date: 2003-07-30 05:33 am (UTC)Ah, the inspiring Greek climate and landscapes and seascapes and locals and food! :D
I hope you had a nice time, and I'm looking forward to reading the fic!

Date: 2003-07-30 05:46 am (UTC)pictures! i want to see pictures of you all brown and frolicking on beaches and sightseeing and gorging on food and drinking! did you do any dancing?
wow. 2 more months of leave. well, you better get up to loads of debauchery then.

Date: 2003-07-30 05:57 am (UTC)I did do some dancing, in a line with a whole lot of other people at a 'Greek Evening' in our hotel. Heh. If that counts.
Going back to work depresses me endlessly so I prefer not to talk about it.
I have no digital camera and no scanner so no way of turning my pics into web-able objects.

i'm in the same boat as you, but i don't know if they do it in the u.k. but loads of places which develop photos usually can digitise your pix for you.

It's the thing that Hogo writes before the beginning of a book.

Date: 2003-07-30 08:12 am (UTC)Erm, personally just went to Comic Con & frolicked with Wendy & Jo...oh, and groped on Sala a lot. But that's not news, exactly, since I did the same thing last year. *grins*
Haven't posted any new fics. But I did update my site finally.
And, um, Karl/Dom!?!?!!? Gimme!!
(no subject)
Date: 2003-07-31 06:15 am (UTC)I like that new unusual pairings site, btw; you've got a *lot* of fics on there. Hooray! I miss having a long series of yours to look forward to, though. *winks*

Date: 2003-07-30 09:38 am (UTC)Comic-Con was apparently great, there are some online snippets of video and great pictures, including the funniest ones of Dom and Elijah dancing on stage. And there's a personal report by the woman who got dressed as a hobbit,
I've been reccing a little in my journal, hope you like some of those.

Date: 2003-07-30 03:05 pm (UTC)* Looked at some Anglo Saxon burial mounds
* Ignored responsibilities
* Did not write anything
* Ate quite a lot of fish
* Drank some vodka
* Rolled eyes at fandom fracas
* Found new house to move into
* Felt a bit down
* Had some tea
Also, office-fic become the new lotrips trend, see here and here. And I second
There. Not bad considering I've been ignoring LJ for days.
