Have written fic with Maltese in it. The Maltese script has various diacritical marks that my keyboard cannot produce and for which I do not know the html &; thingie.

Does anyone know a site which lists html special letters?

Or can anyone tell me how to make:

- an 'h' with a diagonal slash through it?
- a 'z' with a dot on top?
- a 'g' with a dot on top?

I hope this helps! If not, just say so. :)

oh! I found some Maltese things while sorting through unpacked luggage a couple of weeks ago. thought I would send you the map, with the notations of Troy locations that I made on it. would that be at all useful?

Well, *grins sheepishly* but fic is already with beta and doesn't need locations all that much. But perhaps a little scan for possible future Malta and Troy fics? Because I enjoyed this one so much I doubt it'll be my last. And I saw *The Hulk* last night (a dreadful movie) and am intrigued by the potential of Eric Bana...

Eric Bana Troy pics? Where? Have you seen these? Or did you see him irl? *crawls on floor*

Am reading the Iliad. Don't know how close they are keeping to Homer in their script but interaction Hector/Paris is *delicious*. (Eric = Hector, right?)

We were lucky enough to have seen Eric once while we were in Malta, but didn't talk to him. I haven't seen any pictures of him; maybe he's been keeping a low profile? Or maybe no one cares about him, too consumed with getting pictures of Brad and/or Orlando? He looked lovely, even with the facial hair (which is why I didn't recognize him at first). And his hair - the hair you will see in the film is his own. *purrr*

As for the script - I'm not sure how much they're keeping to Homer, either, but my understanding from B. (who read the script for work) is that the three main characters in the film will be Achilles, Hector, and Paris, and I have to believe there will be some excellent Hector/Paris moments... *quiver*

Well, they're not veering too much then. So far (I'm about 1/3 of the way through the Iliad), the main characters are indeed Hector and Achilles, with delicious sprinklings of Paris, and also Diomedes (seems to have been edited out for film), lots of Zeus/Athene/Aphrodite/Here (gone from film??) and Agamemnon. I'm hoping for some major Patroclus action, however, *sigh* How well do you know this legend? Can I say *anything* about it or will I spoiler??

Right - no gods or goddesses in the film (one of the reasons I said I don't know how close they're sticking to Homer; I'm guessing that much of the structure is still there, but much of the details are changed. But I'm only guessing, because B. had the script while I was in England, so I wasn't able to read it for myself.)

I'm hoping for some major Patroclus action

The 'beloved cousin' (another change for the movie!) does, I believe, get his big moments in the film.

How well do you know this legend? Can I say *anything* about it or will I spoiler?

I know it pretty well; have read both The Iliad and The Odyssey, though that was years and years ago and I'm sure some of my detailing is off. But go ahead!

Wow! I'm allowed to spoiler the Jenn!

Er. Am all tongue-tied now.

Patroclus as cousin!!! Heresy! Right. I'm already pissed off with stupid Petersen. Cousin! *spits on floor in disgust* That just turns his death into sentimental Hollywood drivel and not into the soultearing anguish it ought to be! I mean, who goes on a killing rampage for a *cousin*? It's so LAME!

One thing I like about the Iliad is the Paris/Hector dynamic. The way Paris is a bit of a nancy boy -- or at least Hector keeps telling Paris that he is and berating him for escaping with Helen into his "perfumed bedchamber" (woohoo, are we going to see Orlicurly *fucking* action?? because there is Orli/Helen shagfest in Homer!). Hector finally storms into said bedchamber and finds Paris polishing his armour. When Paris finally goes out to battle, he prances out like a foal, all proud of how splendid he looks in his shiny new gear. But, otoh, he does battle like a tiger at the side of Hector and later Hector apologises for his words. So it's quite a subtle fraternal relationship.

God knows if they'll be able to rescue that for the movie.

Will joy and wonders never cease? ;p

Oh, but it's his beloved cousin! So that makes it alright.

Yes, I remember this! I have a thing for Orlando/Eric going back to my first Black Hawk Down fic, so I was a bit gleeful when I read about Eric's casting. There's going to be lots of potential for actorslash and character slash from this film, methinks. I keep wanting to start the troyslash community - though someone else may have done so by now.

woohoo, are we going to see Orlicurly *fucking* action??

Within the first twenty minutes, baby. (B. first said it was in the first ten minutes, but then backpedalled a bit and said she wasn't sure, but it was definitely in the first reel.)

Start it, start it! If anyone's the person to do it, it is you! And if you do, I will post my Maltafic to it as an inaugurating story. Maltafic is with beta. I could alert you when it's back. Because it's nice to start a community with a bit of fic fanfare. So if you have one (do you???) and I have one, then that's already a bit of a fanfare. I promise to pimp it everywher! Will you do a community or a yahoo list?

Is tricky to track down, but I found a page that included them about ISO 8859-1 Latin 1 </geekery>

I tested these on my system with preview and they looked fine. The first item should be the Maltese character, the second is the HTML entity you should use, just copy and paste to your editor.

Wow. What a site. I got quite lost just reading the descriptions. Macron accent! Guillemot left! Small thorn! This is like poetry.

But my browser won't let me see the slashed h. Darn it all.

Thank you!
