lobelia321: (depp flop)
[personal profile] lobelia321
Inspired by my second viewing of t'pirate film, I tried to make a Commodore/Sparrow icon. I failed sadly. I wish them to gaze longingly into each other's eyes, in the manner of [livejournal.com profile] orlisbunny's Sparrow/Turner icon. But my attempt looked too dumb.

So I found this Depp flop pic!

In some pics, with this hair and this beard and these hands, Johnny Depp reminds me of Karl!

*winks at [livejournal.com profile] badgermonkey*

I am too stupidly fangirlish over Orlando because today I actually found myself approving of his performance for about 80 percent of the time! The wrinkled-brow was in evidence somewhat more often than was called for but sometimes he does put on some very nice eyes. He also has a not-very-projecting voice, sort of rumbling and hard to hear -- but stupidly I like even that.

But the Commodore! What a stylish man! And how valiant! And there's one scene where you catch a glimpse of Jack D's very adorable smile. Yes, please.

Keira = not my thing. The black woman who has sassy exchanges with Jack is more to my liking. She is Zoe Saldana.

I even liked Geoffrey Rush this time around. In fact, I liked almost everyone and enjoyed it more than first time because I didn't have to follow the plotty plot.

But am still smitten with Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow based upon Keith Richards. *sighs* When he's on the beach with Keira... oh dear. Yo ho ho.

And I noticed this time what [livejournal.com profile] thejennabides pointed out some weeks ago: that Orlando looks down at Johnny's crotch when it's not called for by any lines in the script. Well, he has to ascertain that Johnny is a "pirate". Call it what you will, Will.

Oh, and there are quite a few slashy scenes between Orlando/Jack D. and Johnny D/Jack D. *sighs*

I dreamed of Jack Sparrow last night. Bring on more!

Yes!

Even Jack/Norrington.

Bugger, what *is* that Commodore's first name? I knew it once. Won't matter for fps purposes, though.

Is there a community for this?

*has your bebehs*

Bugger, what *is* that Commodore's first name?

no first name given. fanon has been calling him james or edward.

Is there a community for this?

the question you really want to be asking is "is there a good community for this?" [livejournal.com profile] pirategasm is like wading in shit for diamonds. i want to set up norrington_fic or summar, for jack d. and norrington fic. [livejournal.com profile] thejennabides and i already have [livejournal.com profile] mateys set up, which up to now is a no-traffic orlando/keira/johnny, but we're thinking of making it a RPF-only community, since all the potc fic communities out there seem to be RPF *and* character fic, or slash only, or discussion groups.

*catches breath*

Oh, I know [livejournal.com profile] mateys, of course! *rolls eyes*

And the Commodore's name! Hah! I immediately thought of Edward: am fanonish without even knowing it. However, he *does* have a name, and it gets mentioned in the script and in scenes that were filmed but not included in the final cut. Now to find that ruddy link... bugger it all. I think [livejournal.com profile] cherry_glitter posted it, or that woman from Edinburgh, what the dickens was her name again? Anyway, he does have a scripted name! Will post a post when/if I rediscover it. (*snorts*, it's probably Edward!)

Are you still looking for it? I posted it in my journal a while ago. (http://www.livejournal.com/~dantana/649358.html)

And, yes, Norrington's first name is James. Jack Davenport suggested it, because he figured it would be the closest he'd ever get to playing James Bond (although I personally think that he would be a great choice, after Bronsan leaves).

I discovered Jack D. in "This Life" and drooled (although I liked the other character, Miles, even better...) and then I remembered that it was Jack D. who was in Ripley, so I re-watched Ripley some weeks ago (upon which I re-discovered Jude...).

The Orli crotch scene:

Duel scene, right? In the smithy? Sparrow corners Turner and says, "You're not a eunuch, are you?" and his eyes stray to Turner's crotch. Then Turner replies, "No, but you are a pirate." And Turner's eyes stray to Sparrow's crotch!! As [livejournal.com profile] thejennabides said: "Nice touch, Orli." And it is a *very* nice touch. Because I can see why one would look at someone's crotch to confirm eunuch or no, but why would you need to check out the groin region to ascertain *pirate status*?

I like it!

*laughs uproariously*

Well, from where *I* was sitting (in the pervy porn row, apparently), it was definitely a short'n'sharp glance downwards. Not once over. Just a rather targeted checking-him-out in echoed response to Jack's eunuch-glance.

Mwahahahah.

I don't think Orlando looks at Johnny once "in derision". He's meant to, script-wise, but he just can't manage to do it properly; he adores him too much!

Now this is too much for me. But Miss [livejournal.com profile] badgermonkey may like it, of course, *g*. I suspect, though, that this transcends the boundaries of the flop proper and is more in the wave or flow territory of coiffure.

I watched PotC for the fourth time last night and found myself respecting Orlando's performance a lot more than before. On my first viewing I was caught painfully between SQUEE!!!1 and PAIN!!!1. Squee because he is Orlando and Orlando is good. Pain because he was so painfully, painfully earnest and obviously yearning for a better role.

I am perhaps hanging too many hopes on Troy, but I just have a Feeling. I Feel that Orlando will be good in it. Really, decently good.

And also naked.

This shall cement his place among the vault of shining Hollywood stars. ;P

by 'this,' do you mean his acting ability or him being naked... ?! *snort*

i liked Orli as Will because he was supposed to be stiff and awkward, and he did it quite well. we just need to see him to judge, and i'm hoping we'll get to see calcium kid and ned kelly... troy is just way too far away! WAH!!!1

Nakedness is the great equalizer, some say; I say that Bloom!Nakedness is the most sublime physical thing in the world, possibly.

Um. Nakedness is the equalizer? I think not. I would not like to be equalized next to Ms Knightley, for example. She of the 18 years, trim tum and unbabied vagina.

I also agree that it is Orlando's nakedness that will possibly make or break Troy. That and Eric Bana's. Mwuahhah.

I remain calmly unhopeful of O's performance. Stake all my hopes on t'nekkidness. Though I liked his performance better this time round than last, he *does* do the brow-wrinkle a *lot*. A wrinkly Paris? Also, he's not terribly good at saying 'I love you'; he's not very passionate. But we shall see.

You *have* a point!

*has epiphany and falls over*

The way he ogles Johnny throughout this film...! The only time we see a semblance of passion is when he gets to imitate Johnny. "Avast", and copying the swagger walk.

Actually, also in the very first scene where he breaks off the candelabrum.

But you're right. Some director had better learn to coach the poor boy.

Wolfgang: "Orlando, one more time. Look into Diane's eyes but think 'Brad'. That's it! Roll 'em!"

Actually, also in the very first scene where he breaks off the candelabrum.

that was a fantastic entrance for Orli. pity he didn't have very many more comic moments. i hope the sequel will allow him to expand his, er, horizons.

i think, from the way he gushes, Orli is one of those straight people who wishes he were gay, because he thinks being gay is cool or something. he only ever talks about women's looks, you know, like, kiera or diane or whoever is beautiful, but he would go in-depth about how much he admires Viggo or Johnny, that sort of thing, or how charismatic is Ian McKellen, and how he couldn't keep his eyes off him, same with Johnny, and how he would act like an idiot if Viggo asked him, which i just lurve.

I have had lengthy discussions with [livejournal.com profile] freyafloyd about this very thing. You see, I myself do not think Orlando is either gay or wishes to be gay. I think he's pretty much straight-up straight but he is also a fanboy. But being a gushing fanboy of older and more successful men *is* a straight thing to do! Straight men do this all the time!

straight boys don't usually go on about how good looking another boy is. they just don't. they would talk about the other boy's qualities, and why they admire him. or do like Astin did in the FOTR cast commentary - he said he is jealous of Orli's looks as Legolas, and then tried to undermine him any chance he got. i have no doubt Orli is a fanboy; he just talks like a gay one.

I adore Orlando, really...but he does try very, very hard. I couldn't figure out if the melodramatic performance was due to his role and the movie, or if he simply overacts. It's hard to tell. I'm just begging for him to do something artsy. I know there's talent hiding in there somewhere!!!

Zoe Saldana...yum. She was 'yum' in Center Stage, as well. Lovely collarbones...

Keira's not my thing, either. I feel guilty because everyone else is so smitten with her, but I'm just not feeling it. And her lips scare me.

Johnny Depp is amazing. I become more and more convinced with every role I see him take on and inhabit.

[livejournal.com profile] badgermonkey also remains firlmy Keira-resistant.

Talent hidden? *snort* Don't hide it too well, Bloomster, or your looks will have gone by the time the acting will out. And I fear that 'something artsy' may -- *may* -- be beyond the poor boy. Also, that he's not into it: he's into big-time success and being cool like Johnny and Brad.

But who knows? Heh.

Worse than this: when are we going to find out if Dominic can act???

Keira Knightley drove me mad throughout. Same problem as Gwyneth 'I'm so wet I'm floating' Paltrow. She acts with her funny swan neck, as though it was an extra limb or something. And in KK's case, said neck is so alarmingly slender, I kept thinking it was going to snap off. Also, pre-Bend it Like Wotsit, she kept beating a friend of mine at auditions. I mean, beating her to the part, rather than hitting her...

I also have a Gwyn-resistance - although I must concede that she was marvellous in Talented Mr Ripley.
