Friends colours

Does anyone ever angst about what colour to choose as the background for a particular Friend? And go into paroxysms of choice hell when discovering that two of their Friends have somehow ended up with the same colour and that is confusing? And worry about whether the colour *matches* their Friend's perceived personality?

I've had mine all the same from the start.. 'cause i'm a perfectionist that way, everything has to be the same and in its rightful order.. or else the world shall fall apart ;) Plus, I know i'd favour colours for certain people and that would be just full of inequality and badness ;)

All the same colour? Oh, but that would *confuse* me. I need the colour as a recognition crutch. The only ones who have the same colour in my world are communities and people whom I Friend on a special drool-pics only customised list.

colour-coding your friends sounds weird. like girloftheq, mine are all the same. maybe i should colour my games and communities another colour... ? hmm...

i know it's provided by lj, but... well, how do you assign colours? i love lobelia and orange is my favourite colour, so she shall be orange. i hate so-and-so and i hate pink so that person shall be pink?

I do this intuitively. I think of the person (insofar as I "know" her) and assign a colour that somehow embodies her to me. It becomes problematic when two people seem to me to be "green", for example. E.g., eyebrowofdoom had to be forest green, I just knew she had to be. And you're a sort of pink, because I saw that cute pic of you with the Duck, and cute is pink. And azewewish is grey because of Fun & Games and sober discussions and because her own original LJ layout was grey. And badgermonkey is pale blue because her fics are like a fresh spring breeze (when the sky is pale blue). And... and so it goes on, you see. Except I'm now running out of colours!

don't sweat about it - i don't really mind, since i pretty much never go to your friends page, and would never have known about the colour coding thing if this topic didn't turn up.

btw, can you pick a default icon please? your posts look so sad when they are not iconified.

I have to say that I've never bothered to colour-code my friends list. But now that you've mentioned it...besides, I'm a stage manager! We colour-code everything!!!
