techie probs mean: i will post this in 2 parts

The Starless Nights awards have now got changed rules. It is no longer vote by jury but anyone can vote.

So of course I felt duty-bound to go and vote. But was dismayed! Because the same 20 or so fics were nominated over and over again in different categories. This mystifies me. How can [livejournal.com profile] shaenie's "Cusp" be 'romance' as well as 'drama'? How can [livejournal.com profile] azewewish's "Fun & Games" be a 'novella' as well as a 'series'? And so it goes on.

Well, we signed Lobelia up for a dial-up service that you pay for by the minuite just for emergencies such as not being able to post more than 4 lines. Sadly, although it worked fine on Saturday, today it wouldn't connect! Am hoping we can work through it this evening and get her up and running again.

hmm, getting her a new isp doesn't seem like a long-term solution, plus it sounds very pricey. what does her current isp have to say about the matter? or maybe she should bring her computer into a repair shop place thing... ?

and aren't you a complete sweetie to go to all this trouble *hugs*

Lazulus is the biggest sweetie ever, *smooches laz*.

I am now at work so can do infinite lj-ing if so inclined. Except of course I can't because it's work, heh. Also I'm not going to get on my bike and cycle all the way in and negotiate the university and do all that logging-in shit plus start every time someone walks into the office in case Ewan's penis is on show or something -- just in order to answer some comments!!! Even though I do feel tempted...

I have rung my isp people in order to get technicians to look at my cable but guess what? Their support service was *down* all yesterday! Isn't life fun?

Whoever set up these awards has not been paying attention. There's a reason why book and movie awards are for a specific year. It means that new things get attention and not the same old ones over and over, no matter how good they are. Given the speed of fanfiction, I think any contest should be for the last few months!

Besides, any contest that doesn't have links to stories in the voting section is really more about familiarity and popularity than evaluation.

Am probably not voting, I'm terrible with remembering names of stories.

I am being more and more convinced by people that I should not vote in these awards. Because it is also unfair to vote if you haven't read all of the stories, and I'm not reading all of the stories. And changing the rules from jury to vote half-way through is *not* good.

Nor is bringing forward/u> (not extending) the deadline, so that many of us left it too late to vote because we thought we had until the end of the month!

Not convinced by an award that has the same fics again and again, and no mention of fandom classics (simple omission by those who got around to voting, but still ...)
