Yesterday I posted about the Starless Night Awards and urged all to vote. Today, I have been convinced by comments on that thread not to vote.

Here is why I won't vote:
- In order to be fair, professional and unbiased, one would have to read *all* of the fics nominated in order to vote. I am not going to read all of the fics on the list. If I just voted for my favourites, I am not behaving fairly or professionally. I'm just patronising friends and people I happen to know.

- The awards organisers changed the rules half-way through from jury system (where the jury reads *all* of the fics) to vote system (where anyone at all can put in a vote with no rules or regulations). This is not good. This is unprofessional, chaotic and unfair. I cannot support this.

- The whole nominations process was already so confused, that only a tiny proportion of authors got nominated, fics got nominated several times in different categories and other discrepancies appeared, that in all fairness the end result would simply endorse something that was faulty from the beginning.

So, even though I couldn't help being chuffed at being nominated, I will now put vanity aside and not vote.

This also leaves time available for writing Desert Prince and reading Catalyst. *g*

P.S. You may be wondering: how can Lobelia be typing in such a long post? The reply: I have cycled into work! But work-online-time is of necessity limited and also fraught with fear: who is going to walk into the office at any minute now (everyone's got a key, it seems) and catch a glimpse of Ewan's penis or similar?

I had *dreams* about Catalyst all night! I am such a slave to that fic. I am now on page 117. I need to talk to you desperately. I have about a zillion questions to ask, no more like 34, some of them intimate in nature. As they say in East Anglia, this fic is making me come over all unnecessary.

*fans self*

*stops fanning self because enjoys burning -- is Beelzebub, after all*

I want to be Dom! This is a disturbing revelation to me.

This sums up all my reasons for not voting. Plus, last but not least: How could I partake in a process that votes someone "Best Author?" That's just ridiculous. Best author is such a subjective matter, and it should stay that way, thankyouverymuch.

This is also the reason why I, personally, enjoy categories like "Best Fight Scene" a lot more than "Best Overall." The latter is stupid. The former is fun.

And it actually took me a whole two days to figure out whether to accept the nominations. The meantime had me whining to [livejournal.com profile] airgiodslv and just generally making "an elephant out of a fly." (Direct quote) Or a mountain out of a molehill, if that's what you prefer. ::g::

- In order to be fair, professional and unbiased, one would have to read *all* of the fics nominated in order to vote.

That's exactly how I felt when I first went to vote...so I only voted in the categories where I had already read all of the stories. Or if there was a category that included one or two unknown fics, I just read them on the spot. I didn't vote in the Sean/Elijah or Orli/Viggo categories for that reason...

- The awards organisers changed the rules half-way through from jury system (where the jury reads *all* of the fics) to vote system (where anyone at all can put in a vote with no rules or regulations). This is not good. This is unprofessional, chaotic and unfair. I cannot support this.

There are going to be two winners for each category. The jury is still going to be used, and there will be a Reader's Choice and a Jury Choice. Doesn't change the fact that the rules were changed, but just thought you should know.

Not going to argue with you there. ;)

*looks around* I've been lured here by a promise of glimpsing Ewan's juwels (couldn't resist the pun, sorry), where are they?

About the awards: I've been staying as far away as possible from them. The constantly changing rules bothered me and made me suspicious, and this is the final straw. Very unprofessional, as you said.

Bugger. There I was thinking you's got it sorted somehow (by osmosis?).

Anyway, I have steered well clear of the Starless Night Awards thingy. Have very particular views on fandom awards which I won't go into here (blah blah blah).

You not finished Catalyst yet? *looks innocent*
