Oh semi-colon, you most boring of punctuation marks! You're neither fish nor fowl: half full stop, half comma. You are necessary but oh, so boringly dutiful. I cannot abide the types of sentences that need you but now and again even I must have recourse to your pedestrian self. Not for you the definite forcefulness of a full stop (or 'period', I guess, as the Americans would have it). The full stop is the Norrington of punctuation marks! And not for you the graceful sweetness of the comma, all curvaceous elegance. Nor for you the open-ness of the colon, the breathlessness of the double-hyphen, the heartstop of the exclamation mark, the dreaminess of the ellipsis, nor even the embrace of the parentheses.

You're like a pair of false teeth: useful but with no bite.

I adore the semi-colon. I think you should leave it alone. You are just being mean. You are in fact being so mean, that I refuse to use a semi-clon in your presence, for fear that you might abuse it.

Eek, I have been semi-colonexclaimed!

T'reaction stunneth me somewhat. There is, it seemeth, nothing that will not excite this fandom beyond reasonable levels.

P.S. I lied. I cannot roll my tongue. It's all that Darwin man's fault.

Actually, I find that there are a lot of things that are that man Darwin's fault.

The ones that are not that man Darwin's fault are that man Freud's fault or that man Marx's fault.

But I love semi-colons! My sentences are often much too long (german-ness again), and the lovely semi-colon makes it look like I'm doing it on purpose!

You need to found a Semi-colon-lovers' club with [livejournal.com profile] freyafloyd, evidently, who diatribed me about my abuse of her beloved s-c.

O; you; must; write; your; own; ode;;;

Hey! I love semicolons! I admit that a few years ago, I had no use for them whatsoever. Now, however, I include them in everything. They are so useful; so creative! They have such personality!

LOVE THE SEMICOLON!!!

You and your run-on commas...*grumbles*

I need to teach you Shakespearean punctuation movement-text so that you can get in touch with your inner semicolon. It's in there. I know it.

I can't believe it! Inner fucking semi-colon!! What next?

You semi-colon lovers! *rolls eyes*

And heh, the rambling sentences! I'm telling you: I have gone off them! Hence my love for the full stop: Norringtonesque, forthright and manli.
