I liked the film. I like films (and novels) where characters are faced with ethical decisions. The Ewan-character is faced with a serious ethical choice. In fact, there are 3 moments in the film where he is faced with such a choice, and each time he makes the wrong choice. This is not presented in a we-have-the-right-answer way. It is simply shown, and we, as audience, must decide what's right and wrong. But it's pretty obvious.

He makes the wrong choice each time. He is a deeply flawed man, and, I think, a Very Bad Man because he knowingly allows an innocent man to die.

And [livejournal.com profile] freyafloyd: Ewan is very good in this (as is Tilda). He is scruffy. He is also very sexy. And his shlong is in evidence (in detumescent state) as are his curls, both pubic and chest.

Tilda Swinton is in this movie? Hmm.

I all of a sudden have a renewed interest in it.

Was the tumescent penis very bleak?

The detumescent penis was not very bleak. Some of the sex was sordid but not the Tilda/Ewan sex in the context of which the penis is to be admired.

The thought of Ewan's chest hair seems to lead directly to thoughts of Jude's leg hair.

I need to see the film though.

Especially Jude's leg hair against Ewan's chest hair.

As Ewan fan: yes, you need to see this film.

I saw Young Adam a few days ago and still haven't made up my mind about it. I liked it because it was different from all other films I've seen recently, but I don't know if I liked it.

And I really don't know what to make of that custard scene...

Oh, the custard scene was very strange! But it sort of made sense to me. It explained why she left him. And it chimed in with the sort of man he was: a bit untethered, a bit selfish and indulging in sensual whims, a bit cruel. And apart from that, I thought the scene was surprisingly powerful as well. And it was well done the way you couldn't tell whether she was crying or moaning with pleasure -- that was rather disturbing.

Very true.

And it was well done the way you couldn't tell whether she was crying or moaning with pleasure -- that was rather disturbing.

True again.

I'm sorry, my brain's a bit cottony today *g*
