I'm so used to the quick fix of instant and abundant fb in my virtual life that it comes as a bit of a shock when something similar happens irl. But it has.

A few days ago, I got an email from the Art Institute in Chicago, replying to my request to look at one of their paintings while I'm on my research trip there later on this week; at the end of the email, they told me how much they had enjoyed my first book and how pleased they were that one of their paintings was going to be part of my next book -- unprompted! They simply recognised my name!

And last night, I posted a query about libraries on a professional list that I am a member of but that I hardly ever read last year (due to being eaten by the slash-bug) and that I only ever lurk on. I asked if people would be interested if I set up a website about international libraries. Just now I opened my rl email account: 21 replies! That's more than I get for most of my stories!

Plus it's sunny, I went to Hedingham Castle today and saw some jousting and a good-looking dad with a three-day-beard, and I'm also reading a book about 'How to manage your mother'. In fact, I think I'm going to write a fic about her.
