Some fics I have enjoyed recently:

Coming Home, by [livejournal.com profile] girloftheq
A lovely, long build-up. Delicious dialogue. Dom/Orli.

Kiss and Tell, by [livejournal.com profile] thejennabides
If you thought Jenn could only write swoonsome poetic visions, you would be mistaken for this is cheeky and dialogue-driven and crunchily gorgeous. Orli / Keira and... others.

Refugees, by [livejournal.com profile] sheldrake
I read this ages ago and only now remembered it because of my discovery of the wonder that is Christian Bale! Lovely atmo and great side-digs about actors. Billy/Christian.

Tarnish, by [livejournal.com profile] ukcalico
Wonderful prose and metaphoric beads. Swoonsome style, as always. John/Gentleman, from Fingersmith.

And I owe so much fb it's not funny. Apologies to anyone still waiting!!

Hah! [livejournal.com profile] the_oscar_cat and I were ruminating alternative slashy Oscars. They could be called 'The Erect Tails' or 'The Cellophane Eyebrows' or 'The Slashy Beagles'.

She proposed the following categories:

'Slashiest Eyebrow-raising'

'Oh Look my Shirt Fell Off'

And I nominate Hetty Wainthropp Investigates for:

'Slashiest Knitwear'

Anyone else?

Bedazzled by the acqusition of the Velvet Goldmine soundtrack, I naughtily showed the sons Obi-wan Kenobi's waggling willy (TV Eye, for those who've seen the film). Am shameless.

I tried to package it as a history lesson: 'Yes, look, that was what rock music *used* to be like, in the 70s...'

Older son: 'That's the first movie I've seen with a willy in.'
Younger son: 'Yuk. Eurgh. No, it's not yuk, it's funny.'

Now they both want to be rock stars.

I proceeded to dance around the living room with older son to the tune of 'Baby's on Fire', brandishing a child's guitar and a hockey stick respectively in lieu of electric *gui*tars.

Takes me back to doing same when I was nine years old and miming to Cat Stevens and Gilbert o'Sullivan with the aid of tennis racquets and a drum kit made out of cardboard boxes...
