absurd icon poll

I am a luddite. (A person from early 19th C. northern England mining towns who wanted to smash the machines. Well, you know what I mean.)

I come back from overseas and

a) my Friends page has been defaulted into S2 and I can't get my oldfashioned S1 back and am so confused I can barely read anyone's posts in the weird serif font I'm landed with; (look, a semi-colon!)

b) everyone has five million icons and I don't recognise anyone anymore.

People, you cannot *have* 50 moods! I can't cope if everyone looks different every time I log on. I will have to go to no-icon default (*if* that still exists...) to save my poor brain.

To counteract the current icon craze in true perverse mode, I'm going to use default only for the next while (except when posting a fic which always gets a fic-themed pic, and except when posting in bollywood).

So, what default shall I use, eh?

origfic challenge!!!

Yes, folks, you know I'm back when the quest for origfic continueth!

I know that some insane souls out there are doing the nano-thingy (which, btw, impresses me no end) but how about some *shorter origfics* for all of us starved origfic droolers? (Okay, that is all *three* of us or some similar sad number but this thing may yet turn into an avalanche!)

So, CHALLENGE TIME:

Write an origfic.

Make it short. (1,000 words max in Word.)

Don't expend excessive words on "worldmaking" or description of location. Hint at location.

Ditto characters. Sketch them in. Give them an evocative name. Describe *one* item of what they're wearing.

Make them talk. Make them do stuff. Don't make them think or muse or go off into long backstories.

In fact, you're only allowed one sentence of backstory.

Now: go!
