Stories I like from the OrcSlash site:
One Dark Night, by Enros - this is simply stunning; got me onto the orc love to begin with. Rewrites Tolkien's not-entirely-thought-through orc psyche from the inside out and is as poignant as fluey peeing.

Old Times by Tyellas is also a lot of fun.

And then there's On Orc Love by Belinda (not on the OrcSlash site) which is just great.

And not to forget The Mirror by Kete, a moving Frodo/orc fic.

Why do I love orc lust?

Because orcs give you a chance to branch away from romance and fluff into territories not usually charted by slash: into the psychology of evil, into the realms of true cruelty and lovelessness, into plots of war and battle and male-on-male torment. In a funny way, the fantasy-figures of orcs are closer to the real-world reality than our real-person characters. And because crawling into the head of such a character is so challenging and makes writers really *think* about these issues, orc fic can be very poignant and make philosophical and ethical points. And I do like a dose of ethics with my aesthetics. And with my porn.

I just want to pimp the wonderful fics I got for my birthday!

Knots, by badgermonkey. It's a locked post but if you friend her, she'll friend you back. It is a gorgeously lovely (and even slashy!) origfic. And it's Demelza at her best, all breezy and spot-on dialogue and fantastic timing.

First Date by azewewish. An all-dialogue Brenda original, and another wonderful origfic! (I feel so moved by all this origging!) Atmospheric, ambiguous, and what a way to characterise with no description whatsoever. All show, all do, no tell.

Live Specimens by viva_gloria. A historic fanfic that's almost orig. Intriguing characters, intriguing premise, and a hint of antipodean theme! Wonderful period atmo.

I got some wonderful pics as well and some lovely, lovely real packages with wrapping and all, and a lot of nice congrats: thank you, everyone!!
