obsessed but absent
Mar. 18th, 2004 11:07 pmBizarre fact: I am obsessed with this narratological analysis of fanfic. So I am obsessively writing about fandom, and the side-effect is that I am in effect absent from fandom. Because instead of opening LJ I'm opening narrfic.doc and tippetty-typing away.
Got to go to London tomorrow but will post in next few days. (Yeah, I know, I've said that before...) Am also cooking up a little nice Dom/Karl and a nice Jed/Steve.
I can't believe how much I've learned doing this narratological analysis. *falls over with own erudition* I am quoting
cupiscent and
gabbyhope in one breath with (among others)
aristotle,
homer and
mikhail_bakhtin! (Okay, those last three aren't really LJ-users, seeing as they're dead and all, for one thing -- but I just wanted to have their names next to one of those little head-icon-thingies, on a par with Gabby and Dee.) I just love it!!
*kisses fanfic and slash and everyone who ever wrote any* (ten zillion years later....)
One of the things I have discovered is how heterosexual slash is. The fics are full of men but the reader- and writership is full of women. It's ostensibly m/m but it has the m/f built into it! I just love that. It's so weird.
When I tried to introduce sex into the narratological analysis (god, if I type this one more time my fingers will drop off -- must devise an acronym), the thing threatened to explode in my face. So I can already see myself writing a second one, devoted solely to matters sexual and NC-17. *falls over yet again*
Also: am loving David Mitchell's novel Cloud Atlas. Slow to get going but now I am in its grip and laughed out loud several times in t'reference library over it.
Just popped round to a neighbour's to have a signature witnessed and nearly creamed my pants, he's so drop-dead sexy. What am I coming to? Lusting after other kids' dads!!
Oh, speaking of which: I actually ran into eb the other day, in a coffee queue. He *addressed* me and we *spoke*. I forbore to invite him to my office. Why, oh why, am I respectable?
