pimping doublespaced

I just have to pimp Doublespaced to which I am getting increasingly drawn (after having been a member for er, all of one day -- I live to link).

It's a new forum for discussing writing and reading, and it's a forum. Which means it's all, ooh, different, with threads and stars and no icons and things, and I'm having to get used to that but will, no doubt, be completely blasée about it by the end of the week.

Remember, this is the woman who used to be frightened by LJ.

Oh, and it was started by badgermonkey. It has, so far, a thread for discussing WIPs, and a drabble challenge, and other things. And it seems to be, so far, blissfully free of tinhats.

Loft

Oh, and I'm in the new loft! The floor is still not finished but it's finished enough for me to have moved my desk and some shelves up here. So here I am, with felt pads at the bottom of the furniture to protect the wood laminate flooring (I love the flooring) and the broadband cable snaking its dangerous way up stairs and along walls and the view, my god, the view. It's like perching in an eyrie!

And the best thing: I'm out of the children's room. Oh, what a boon.

Drawback: my work surface is tiny and wobbly. The loft conversion has thrown us into mega-debt so there is no money to buy a new desk. My present arrangement consists of a narrow short board laid across two trestles. it sags in the middle and I fear for the safety of my iMac.

Still: I look up and I see rooftops and foliage and a flag and a white sky and an antenna and some flowers in a tree and the bottom of our garden and a pigeon balanced on a vertical branch.

gone off lotrips

Hm. So it's finally happened. I've gone off Lotrps.

I hardly read anything. I have to make myself read Lotrps, even by favourite authors. I am gravitating towards problematic and weird and shiny new and frighteningly old other fandoms in order to fill the void and get away from lotrps. I am slowly eroding my lotr-icon stash. I am writing HP, for fuck's sake!

So. I've got two WIPs on the burner so I'm continuing them. And then there's a humorous Dom/Karl (oh, how that pairing has dogged me for these past 1 1/2 years!) which I do want to finish at some point because it's funny. But new fics? Hm. Nah. Looked at some pics of Jed today: didn't even download. Saw some of Dom'n'Orli: did not download. This means something.

Now if it would only mean origfic, that would be fun. But instead it seems to mean self-torture with absurd HP fic and even absurder HP-fic-pairing getting out of hand.
