Heh, ask an innocuous question and get a larger-than-expected amount of tigs because there is no limit to the obsessed fanmind's desire to discuss, explain and dwell on their fandom! Oh, how I love it.

The interesting thing about my interaction with Stargate: Atlantis is that I know nothing of canon but that, I have discovered (duh), I do know quite a bit about the workings of the fannish mind and the droolings of the slasher-in-waiting, so the responses I got to my question about pairings in SGA made such sense to me!!

And all I can say is that if it is the case that the pairing of McKay/Zelenka is rare because Zelenka gets relatively little on-screen time, then the chemistry between them must be truly sizzling to have produced the phenomenal fic that there is about them! (What a terrible sentence. Daylight savings reversal has made my syntactical elegance go to la-la land.)

My crappy institution
I am exhausted by the corruption of it. I have spent the last two weeks getting into an agitated state, emailing left and right, addressing the scandal that is current appointments procedure, but where is it going to get me? Nowhere. Because the management do what they want and we are stuffed guinea pig meat. So today I sent off my application form to join the union (to protect my ass, as they would say in the States) and forthwith I shall stop bothering with emailing and expressing principles and just remember that my number one priority is MY BOOK and not my crappy institution.

But it sickens me to the heart to witness corruption at first hand. To the heart.

Half-term
Half-term was fun. Took t'sons ice-skating in Peterborough and re-discovered my 20-years-dormant skating skills (modest but immerhin!). We went to see Wallace and Gromit in the Curse of the Were-Rabbit (fabbo with flaws but mainly fabbo). I read and re-read [livejournal.com profile] astolat's Time in a Bottle until I can recite bits of it off-by-heart. And I saw an absolutely wonderful Russian film from the 1990s called Burnt by the Sun. In fact, so impressed and moved was I that I saw it twice in one day (yesterday). I also had some good sex which never comes amiss. AND I re-read some of the stuff I've written recently on my book and found myself liking it and wanting to read more!!! Oh, if I have licked this two-years-writer's block finally, I will be so happy!!!

Old habits die very hard (and yes, that is a pun!). I could not help but image-google, I could not help but ogle, I could not help but link to this picture ), and yes, it is strangely satisfying to be delving back into something that feels so familiar, so comfortable, this wallowing in pics and premieres.

He's not even my Draco, for goodness' sake!

And where, might I ask, are pictures of Dudley in Goblet of Fire? He's not even bloody well credited on imdb.com! *storms off*

But my, oh my, that Goyle has pretty red lips. And yet my canonish heart rebels! (I know that some of you think I have no canonish heart but I do, in a weird pedantic way!) Now, a lot of slash may be all about teh pretteh but for me, it is always also about teh ugleh, so the prettying up of Goyle just does not quite sit right with me.

And wasn't he played by some other actor in the previous films? Or is this an actor who did an ugly duckling stunt while pubescing?

So no one else is shocked that there is a rumour going round about how there will be no Dudley in the new Harry Potter film??!!!?

Am I the only one? How can this be?? This is a vast fandom! There ought to be outrage!

*flails catatonically*

Note to self:
Two things I want to post about next (lest I forget):
a) Bakhtin and exotopy and slash
b) how writing short fics is different from writing a really long one (short story vs novel)
lobelia321: (salman)
Oh, and I really miss [livejournal.com profile] brightest_blue.

:-(

And yes, I've just answered my own question, thanks to some judicious googlemoogling!

The actor who plays Gregory Goyle (Joshua Herdman) has indeed metamorphed from a little chubby thug-boy into a pretty young thing with cherry-red lips and smouldering eyebrows. How can this be? Pubescence, eh!

Well, if that's what can happen, there's hope for Dudley!!!

*stares at pics of Goyle*
*despite self, drools sightly at corner of mouth*

Before and *gulp* after
