proulx on brokeback mountain
Feb. 7th, 2006 11:41 pmLinked by everyone; I saw it via
musesfool and
isiscolo:
Annie Proulx's musings on her story and the film. Extremely interesting! For writers both and non-writers.
And, also interestingly, from the Melbourne Age.
God, how I wish someone would make one of my fanfics into a movie. But I wouldn't have Orlando playing Orlando, he's simply not up to it. The vagaries of RPS!!!!
Speaking of which:
helenish has posted some extremely intriguing and true and insane and also hilarious ramblings about the insanity of RPS". Well, I think they're intriguing and true and insane, anyway. :-)
ETA: Proulx revised the story oversixty times. It took her 'forever' to write one paragraph. This makes me feel better about taking so long over my longfic. And better in general, because it shows that a genius story like that doesn't spring fully-formed from its maker's rib; it's sweated and bled.
ETA: The link doesn't work any longer but I downloaded the article. If you want it, I can email it to you.
