Linked by everyone; I saw it via [livejournal.com profile] musesfool and [livejournal.com profile] isiscolo:

Annie Proulx's musings on her story and the film. Extremely interesting! For writers both and non-writers.

And, also interestingly, from the Melbourne Age.

God, how I wish someone would make one of my fanfics into a movie. But I wouldn't have Orlando playing Orlando, he's simply not up to it. The vagaries of RPS!!!!

Speaking of which: [livejournal.com profile] helenish has posted some extremely intriguing and true and insane and also hilarious ramblings about the insanity of RPS". Well, I think they're intriguing and true and insane, anyway. :-)

ETA: Proulx revised the story oversixty times. It took her 'forever' to write one paragraph. This makes me feel better about taking so long over my longfic. And better in general, because it shows that a genius story like that doesn't spring fully-formed from its maker's rib; it's sweated and bled.

ETA: The link doesn't work any longer but I downloaded the article. If you want it, I can email it to you.

How vexing! Can't get to that article at all -- I wonder if it's getting so much attention that they've taken it down?

I really want to read what she says about taking forever to write one paragraph. I confess I'm not this sort of writer: I have a tendency to be lazy, to settle on 'good enough'; possibly to demena my audience by assuming they won't miss that extra mile.

Awwww, I find that extremely comforting - on the other hand ... what about stories which aren't exactly genius material? Shouldn't they at least spring fully-formed from their makers' ribs?

*glares at own ribs and stories*

And, um, the link doesn't work.

It is very odd about Orlando. I have felt the same. Orlando is not Orlandoish enough to play himself. He's not aged well either. I'm not sure who could play Orlando. There is a real life Alisdair I used to know who could possibly do a good job. I have to know who you would cast as Orlando.

I am stalking you tonight, I feel.
