You know what makes me incredibly happy? It is that of all the posts I've made over the past few months (heck, even years) the one that got the most comments was the post about Figwit. Lotr-love! Lotr lives! Lotr luvs (as in pronounced with Karl Urban's accent before he went all la-de-da Hollywood)!

It made me feel warm and fuzzy to realise there were all sorts of others full of the nostalgia lump-in-the-throat out there, just like me, eager to chip in with memories of those great days.

Lovely. Truly so.

Soon I will post juicy morsels from Kristin Thompson's book on the Frodo franchise. I've finished it now. My eyes were glued to the page all the way.

There is a debate going on about academics within fandom so I just thought I'd advertise my credentials and tell you that I've been reading Aristotle's Rhetoric.

Which, by the way, is fab. It is surprisingly engaging and totally topical! E.g. Aristotle advises orators to use simple maxims because most of their listeners will be stupid and will like to hear things that they generally hold to be true. There are whole pages that could be glued onto any analysis of youtubed Obama/McCain debates!

ETA: I'm not reading him in Greek, though. Alas, I'm not that academic, after all.
