Archives of our own
Sep. 7th, 2025 09:03 am Doing this rummaging around in the ruins of LJ has made me realise what a fantastic resource the archiving function is. LJ had it and still preserves it. DW has it. No other so-called social medium has it. With the advent of the algorithm came timeline-free chaos. The end result is that you can never pin anything to a particular historical moment (and I'm sure that is ideological) nor do you own anything as you can hardly ever find stuff you posted aeons ago (and that is definitely ideological).
The calm bureaucratic list of 'Archive' with its timestamps of day and hour is so reassuring.
I am so grateful that the AO3 inherited that archivists' legacy.
