FIC: Desert Prince REDUX. Interleaved Palm-Leaf Archive.

 I am completely absurd. Some of you may (?!) remember my Desert Prince series of lotrips AU fics on LJ, posted between August 2003 and April 2004 (yes, I dove into the LiveJournal Archives to find original dates and comments; I may not survive the trip -- but amazing! it's all preserved). I never managed to transfer more than three of the twelve chapters of LJ Desert Prince to AO3. But today I transferred a fourth chapter, and then I POSTED AN ENTIRE NEW CHAPTER. / falls over several times  This chapter is adapted from my orig adaptation of Desert Prince for nanowrimo in 2019. /falls over some more

But here you are. I give you Chapter Five of The Desert Prince.

Series: The Desert Prince: A Fable
Fandom: Lord of the Rings real person fic (wut)
Pairings: all sorts; this chapter: none
Characters: some unnamed persons (I will add them to the cast list in the endnotes by and by; the messenger is already on there) but also Kajol! (see icon)
Category: AU all the way. Desert. Dream. Abu Niwas inspo. Arabian Nights inspo. Firdausi inspo. This chapter, though: Bollywood meets fairy tale.
Knowledge needed of the series as a whole: At this point? None. Because this is an interleaved new pov, new character thingy. Fic = freedom!
Ignore the rape/noncon/ character death warnings. They haven't happened yet in anything that's posted. And may never happen because you know what? I have mellowed (become wussier) over the past 22 years.

LJ nostalgia

 Going back to LJ to post Desert Prince ancient!fic (from 2003, and apparently even earlier to judge from the comments, argh), I re-read some of the comments / feedback. Really, it brought back with a sharp pang the whole flavour of LJ interactions, so absolutely opposite to all that is "social" media now.  The banter, the fun, the back-and-forth, the hyperbole, the joy and the love.

I'm pasting some redacted comments into my AO3 uploads. They are as much a part of the fandom archive as the fic itself, if not more.
