- Theories of authorship. Yay! Remember my musings on this topic? Heh, that was basically the seminar. I got them to bring in their works of art and debate how valid their own interpretation of it was. And we read Barthes, 'Death of the Author' and Foucault, 'What is an Author?'

Debates on the cut and the shot, the long take vs montage in film. Showed two clip of men fighting (yeah, don't we love that...), one from Stroheim's Greed (1925) and Pudovkin's The End of St Petersburg (1927), and got them to discuss how it was handled differently in each clip.

And yet more film. Introduced them to the jargon. Showed them the start of Run Lola Run. Got them to bring in their favourite clips and analysed those.

Waaah. Fun as all this may be what I really want to teach is 19th C. oil paintings of nude harem women and kitschy sunsets!

Heh, I'll let you know when the book is finished...

In 58 years, if this LJ obsession keeps going the way it has been...
