can't think of a subject line
Dec. 16th, 2003 10:11 pm- I've had one of the worst weeks since the onset of this depression thing. No need to tell more.
- A colleague at uni hanged himself two days ago.
- They've advertised the Head of Department job externally. They want an artist for it. I am not an artist.
- I have bought family tickets for RotK for Saturday, second row from the front (I love being near the front). Am still sceptical and I expect the worst (after TTT, which continues to disappoint me no end).
- UK TV alert! 11.35 pm tonight, BBC1: LotR special with Jonathan Ross and 'stars from the film'.
- Am reading Jonathan Franzen's The Corrections after having given Donna Fartt's [sic] Little Friend the boot after 120 pages.
- Film seminar today: one (I repeat: one) student turned up. It was not EB.
- However, I did convert both the helpers to Dil Se! (Note: helpers are former students, mostly mature, who have jobs helping disabled students; they take seminar notes etc.)
- I tried to implement
badgermonkey's Christmas amazon CD/book strategy but have so far bought nothing online. :-(
- I'm looking for jobs. None so far.
- I remembered that I'm giving a paper at the international superbiggie conference of my field in August 2004 so began to write it in a panic today. Only 8 months to go! Shit. It's on genr.e painting and narr.atives of na.tionh.ood. (The dots are there to prevent this post being googled by my colleagues...)
- I really enjoyed The Castle with Eric Bana, courtesy of
blithesea.
- The children want guinea pigs.
- Dom did not stand next to Karl.
- Karl did not stand next to Dom.
- All the premiere pics, except for Wellington and the kiss one in LA, are crap and fail to inspire me.
- Is Hollywood eating the world?

Oh, and why for fuck's sake do they need an actual artist to head up your department? What does that have to do with anything? *shakes head in indignation*

Date: 2003-12-17 02:59 am (UTC)Sooner or later another job will come up. I must now publish like a lunatic to ensure I get it.

Date: 2003-12-17 04:29 am (UTC)Of course, I'd hire you if I were ever in a position to do so. Your title would be personal art historian/purveyor of smut. You would be ever so appreciated!

Date: 2003-12-16 06:10 pm (UTC)Life sounds like it is being an all round ass. Fi on it, I say. Hot students deserting you and everything!
ROTK -- just think of the orcmeat!
You know Jed Brophy is interviewed briefly on the TTT extended edition?

Date: 2003-12-16 11:20 pm (UTC)I told her!!! She spluttered a lot, then complained that she would now have to rent it from the video shop. It amuses me no end that I imagine Lobelia was your first thought when Jed popped up on screen. I almost picked the phone up and called her!

Date: 2003-12-17 01:12 am (UTC)I nearly squealed, and then started looking around, hoping an internet connection would appear from mid-air. And the revelations about which orc he was actually playing at different times! Viggo/Jed slash, hoy!

Date: 2003-12-17 10:17 am (UTC)a) I was taught 'contextual studies' by non-artists, and was not harmed in any way by this experience. Although I realise this does not help you really.
b) I am on a mission to read as many spoilers as I possibly can.
c) Beat your students soundly, this will help them.
d) I like your google-scuppering technique. V. clever.
e) My mum's been going on about The Castle for months.
f) Dom and Karl are being kept apart!
g) I am now communicating almost entirely in lists.

Date: 2003-12-18 09:53 am (UTC)2) You were not harmed by the experience of being taught by non-artists but maybe I will be harmed by having to teach non-art-historians exclusively. *wails*
3) The mission to be spoilered!! I like it!!! Oh: oliphaunts gang rape Frodo after the credits!!!!!! Saddam killed people!!!!!!!! Ernie is a top!!!!!!!!!!!!
4) Beating EB has crossed my mind. On occasion when standing in front of him. This has caused me to be less than stern.
5) Your mum! The Castle! Come over one time and watch it! It's lovesome.
6) Evil PR Dom/Karl fascist stalinist thugs.

I'd love to! btw, I looked for the Bollywood channel today, but it has disappeared. Maybe it'll come back though.
Shitty week here too.

Date: 2003-12-19 09:26 am (UTC)what are your chances for the head of department thing if you applied? if you are more qualified than some bum off the street, maybe they will take you on? but what's the point if the department is going anyway ... ?
sorry, sweetie *squeezehugs*

Date: 2003-12-28 01:58 pm (UTC)Yes. Precisely! I'm going off the idea of applying again.
