ficlet snippet bean/orli "Always"
Jan. 30th, 2004 11:31 amSo I thought, "hey, I can do that" and her wish became my command as yesterday I tigged her this, and now I'm posting it here as well. :-)
Always
"Always," he said.
The sun was setting behind the conifer trees. The sky had turned an unlikely coral colour. Everything looked morphed; Sean's words sounded morphed, and Orlando couldn't believe he was hearing them.
"Always," Sean said. "I will always walk by your side."
"What?"
Sean turned to him and his smile, too, though radiant in that quiet way of his, sheen of copper on glass, -- his smile, too, seemed contrived by Special Effects.
"I'm not going to say it again," smiled Sean. His cheeks brushed by the sky. Or was that a blush?
And then the sun fell behind the ocean's edge, and inside Orlando's heart, something fell. A weight that had been squeezing into his ribcage. He felt like a helium balloon.
"Come on," said Sean. "It's a long way down."
It was a long way down. But all the way, step after granite step, Sean's back was dependable in front of Orlando's path, and Orlando's ribs: they were singing.
