Eeek! Found chez [livejournal.com profile] cimorene111:

A call for papers on HP fanfic.

A call for papers??? *sticks head in sand*

OK, I know I was getting all academic on everyone's asses with my narratological whatnot but grrr.

I can't figure out whether I'm perturbed because it's HP and not Lotrps (so I can't send in my essay! mymymy) or if I'm miffed because here are some academics snooping round in *my* niche of the world (where I want to be an unsnooped-on academic gone bush) or what or why.

But perturbed I am. Is that silly?

Pffft! It matters not. No many how many academic analyses of HP fic may be conjured up, yours will remain the first of its kind on any type of slashfic. Besides, based on the suggestions, it looks like most will end up being the sort of thing that's already been done, with a bent toward the sociological and psychological, as opposed to an actual analysis of the writing itself.

I'm strangely not so bothered by 'not being first' because I *know* nobody is doing what I have done to those fics but somehow by the whole academic *thing* of slash. Maybe because I've spent so much of the past two years desperately (and possibly pathologically?) keeping the academic side of my life apart from the slashy side of my life.

Pooh.

Uh, yes, silly. Why are you upset? There's a girl who is doing her dissertation on Harry Potter fanfic, and she won't be the last, I bet. Surely certain insanely captivated people have done this sort of thing before.

I know, I know! And that woman in London whose questionnaire I am filling in for *her* Ph.D. And, as I said to [livejournal.com profile] natasha1805 above, it no doubt stems from my own pathological attempt in these past two years to keep my academic life strictly segregated from my slashy life. It's really only very recently, with that narratological essay, that I broke through the barriers of that apartheid.

There are DOZENS of academics dunk-dunking about and snooping. I know of several in my fandoms alone, and that's discounting the Closeted Academics.

Lots of HP (pseudo-)academic stuff lately, though none of what I've read any good at all. Some really ropey writing.

If you fancy giving a Lotrips fanfic paper based on your narratological analysis, there have been a couple of CFPs oer the past few months... I might have the references somewhere.

I know this, I know! I guess I just don't *want* to know. And this is, I'm coming round to accepting (see my tigs to [livejournal.com profile] natasha1805 and [livejournal.com profile] gabbyhope above), partly due to the fact that I've been pathologically keeping my academic life segregated from my slashy life in a kind of apartheid of the mind. No wonder I went batty. And maybe this explains why I enjoyed the narratol. essay so much, because I was finally breaking through those barriers.

But I shy away from proper 'conferences' on the subject! Eek. Somehow, I can only imagine a bunch of closet slashers, dressing up what amounts to a fan con, in borrowed clothes...

Well, imagine it the other way around. A bunch of serious professionals, hiding beneath their sober-suited exteriors and a thorough acquintance with Deleuze a hidden textual depravity. Of course, whether you would want to know this about your chief academic rival is another matter.

Though it might be funny to share a panel with someone you KNOW has spent amounts of their free time over the past few months constructing a wild AU involving Orlando Bloom, Johnny Depp, a deserted space station and a jar of aphrodisiac honey.

My current WIP involves Sean Bean twiddling Viggo's nipples, and contains no aphrodisiac honey whatsoever. I'll have you know.
