I'm so sorry I haven't got fic for you, darling but my days of instant-fic-production seem to be over.

Just as a by-the-by: have you ever written any HP?

I wrote one a long, long time ago in the land of nod. It was for the Iconography challenge, Snape POV, slight Remus/Sirius. Basically, I was forced into writing it. I can't remember the title at the moment, but I believe it's on my website...

What did it feel like, writing it?

Awkward. Very awkward. I knew the world, yes, but I wasn't comfortable in writing it because I don't know it as well as I do lotrips or even lotr. I felt overwhelmed and completely out of my league because there are literally millions of HP fics out there, and I'd only read, like. Ten. How was I supposed to know what was done before? How was I supposed to know how the characters were to sound or act or say aside from my own interpretations from reading the books? It's amazing how much stock is put into fanon. I didn't realize it until I had to write fucking Snape!fic. Ew.

Yes! This is just what I'm finding. The overwhelming amount of fanon in HP is paralysing. And I, too, have read a bare two handfuls of fics, and now I've stopped altogether in case I get completely blocked in trying to find my own characters. It is absolutely true that fanon is very, very powerful. I had an inkling of this when I wrote my narratological analysis but that was more from an analytical point of view; it had never bothered me in Lotrips before, really. I don't know if that is because I hit Lotrips very early on, when the fandom was still raw and we all helped to shape it ourselves, or whether it's because it's my 'home' fandom and I'm so familiar and comfortable with it that I can afford not to care about fanon or canon and can go ahead and twist them out of recognition, or whether it is maybe that canon (and therefore, fanon... or should it maybe not be a 'therefore' at all??) has such a totally different meaning in rps than it does in fps.

Also, I'd always thought that I was part of a pretty big mainstream fandom but *splutter, cough* HP is scary!! It's basically a quarter of the world's population or similar!
