Date: 2004-05-06 09:25 pm (UTC)Pirates was always going to be Johnny's movie; this was acknowledged everywhere outside of LOTR/Orlando fandom. At least one magazine hypothesized that "even teenaged girls" were going to sit up and take note of Johnny in that film.
With Troy, Brad is a given; he had no equivalent in Pirates. I don't know what's going to happen with Orlando. I can't see it increasing his fan base the way that Pirates did, because while it was most assuredly Johnny's movie, it did huge things for Orlando as well. I don't think critics have decided whether or not they like Orlando yet; I fervently hope he will prove himself in Troy. Whatever Orlando gets out of this, he'll have to do it on screen. Because he's not doing the publicity.
Eric is doing publicity. Eric's name is second billed. Eric is being put out there by the studio. Eric should become a huge star after this. And deservedly so! And if your prediction is that Eric is the one who will sway fond thoughts from Orlando to someone else, for whatever reason, then I have to say I agree. I also think he's going to get slashed more than anyone, between Eric/Orlando (which I still think will be the biggest) and Eric/Brad (which I'm starting to think could come a much closer second than I'd ever have thought, before the interviews).
I think I got off the track of responding directly to what you said. But there you go, anyhow!
