I think there might be no hard canonical evidence - the closest thing I can think of is that Sirius was a big deal, because until then, all Blacks had been in Slytherin. so, you know, anecdota/circumstantial.
For all we know, she went to finishing school in France.
Okay, I'm not the most canonically minded, though, so probably you oughtn't to listen to me.
Sirius was a big deal, Well, I just had to go and check what house Sirius was in, duh...
For all we know, she went to finishing school in France. Yess! You see, this is where my fic was heading. This is Narcissa!
I'm not the most canonically minded, though, so probably you oughtn't to listen to me. But this is probably precisely why I should listen to you.
I mean, why am I asking this in my LJ to begin with? Because of my deeply-held HP-canon resistance. God, I have to *drag* myself to the canon. I couldn't survive in HP fandom without the Lexicon. Which I then proceed to mistrust at the first available opportunity.
Actually, I have a deep respect for canon. I just can't be arsed reading it. And anyway, the spirit of the canon ruleth over the letter of the canon. So finishing school it is. Hah.
I was actually going to put her in Ravenclaw but your finishing school has put the wicked seed into my brain and I now can't extricate her from that finishing school But I'm sure she went to one in Switzerland. So much more de rigueur and comme il faut.
You are perfectly in the right here to make what you wish of Narcissa Black's backstory. And if anyone ever tries to take you to task over the bit of Sirius' history in OotP (that he betrayed the family by failing to be in Slytherin), you may (a) say that the issue was his having been in one of the other Hogwarts houses, so Narcissa's boarding school was a perfectly acceptable alternative, or (b) that she went one year to Hogwarts, but found the climate too difficult ... or the cheese too bland ... the chocolate inadequate ... or somesuch story.
Oh, and Blythely is right, I think. I'm enjoying my tour of your LJ. So, hello!
When Draco is talking to Harry in the robe shops in Sorcerer's Stone, he mentions that "all his family have been in Slytherin." Whether he was thinking of both sides of his family is uncertain.
Sorcerer's Stone But can the American version be trusted? Didn't they change stuff??
he mentions that "all his family have been in Slytherin." Excellent! Is this the only proof we have? So I can cheerfully disregard it! For what a reliable witness is Draco at this particular moment? When he's desperately trying to impress Harry? And possibly embarrassed by the non-Slytherin-ness of mummie? Hah!

Date: 2004-06-29 07:41 pm (UTC)I need canonical proof! Because my suspicion is that we do not know and that the Lexiconists simply assumed.
