Today I bought two new guinea pigs.

They are female, and the children have called them Meggie and Polly. Meggie is a tiny chestnut runt of the species American Crested, and Polly is a fluffy, beige-white big mamma of the species British Rex. She looks like a miniature sheep.

They are still very nervous and not making any of those cute squeaking noises. They also don't have the cute tufts that the eaten guinea pigs had, and they are not siblings so don't cuddle up to each other.

*tries to stop investing too much emotional energy into pigletdom*

The children are very happy!

I'm glad you got new piggies. They'll settle down and get comfy soon enough, especially if they are handled and petted.

It's very good for the boys and you and T'Hubster and hopefully these will be a little less adventurous and therefore less likely to make bids for freedom. :)

Oh, and, what's the rule about children naming pets? hmm?

Aw good, I'm glad you got new piggies. Perhaps the females are less adventuresome? I'm sure they'll settle in soon in any case and make all the cute squeaking noises your heart desires. :)

T'eldest is saying they're gossiping about 'passion for fashion, dudette'. T'h thinks they're self-contained wimmin as opposed to the dumb venturesomeness of the show-off boys. Nothing like guinea pigs to bring out the gender stereotypes.

I didn't know your guinea pigs got eaten! That's awful.

Glad you got new ones and your kids are happy.

No, dear. A fox ate the guinea pigs. Although, I have to say, they did look tasty; they were plump and compact. Apparently, they do taste quite good (they eat them in South America, I am told).

GOTCHA!!! LOL. ;-)

I didn't think you ate them yourself, you know. he, he...

The last I heard was you intended to build them another run as they had escaped the first one, I believe? And so a fox got them? Poor things. On the other hand, good for the fox who has to make a living also. Nature.
