Not complaining, mind you, just curious. And curiosity being what it is, tricky little kitty, I scrolled down the rest of the posts on this page and was utterly taken with your writing, points of view, thoughtfulness, and recommendations. The essay on fangirl-hood was illuminating and reassuring to me-I'm new to slash, but not really...only on-line slash. I have had my lovely little OTPs for years, and just kept them, well, hidden, because I didn't want them hurt out here in the big world. Then to discover the wide, generous world of slash! Giddy with freedom, writing every day, even posting? !! I may let my boys out to play in the larger world, now... Thank you for bravely being not-friends-only. I understand why people do it, but I am so grateful when they don't. Jan
Thank you for kind words on my LJ; it is really nice to know that my dribble amuses people besides myself and those who are bound to me by binds of Friends Lists. :-)
Then to discover the wide, generous world of slash! Oh god, yes, I've been there! And I've talked to a few people who've had very similar experiences. I used to think I was a unique weirdo with my predilection for boy-on-boy action. Unique? Hah!!
I may let my boys out to play in the larger world, now... Oh, do, do! And who *are* your OTPs, anyway...???
I didn't even realise I was being brave about being not-Friends Only but thank you.
I don't like all Rothko but I liked these late ones a lot when I saw them last week at the Guggenheim in Bilbao. I like them because they are abstract versions of something I coined a few years ago, the 'minimal landscape', made up of nothing but sky, sea/earth and horizon. (I'm an art historian, btw.)
which just makes you even more interesting! Had I not got laid by the heael in nursing, I might have set a path toward something in art history...oh OH! TOU might know where to find a good print or picture of a Raphael drawing, it's in the Louvre right now, it was in the New York Times June 18 2004 in an article about a 2006 show at the High Museum in Atlanta... *catches breath and wipes brow* The title in the NYT is "head of a Young Man" and I swear it is of Frolijah!! it's not the painting that shows up on some websites, but a drawing, full of motion and emotion,, with the boy/man facing rignt, about a 3/4 view, neck lengthened as he flies/throws himself into whatever it is he's about to do...hair streaming off his neck, cape just visible over his right shoulder... I don't have a scanner, so the best I could do would be to snail-mail you a copy of the article. I can't get the picture from the NYT easily, although I'm trying, and it's not on the Louvre website, though I have no French so couldn't do a real search that way. (Saw a lot of great pictures while I was looking, though) *pauses for breath. looks shyly at Lobelia* Anyway...Any ideas?
I mailed a copy of the newspaper article to muse_ataack, and she made it into my ICON!!! how cool is that! oh-image and google...*facepalm* I forgot... but now, for this, i don't need it *leaps for joy*
