Achilles kills Hector, 5th C. BC, vase in the British Museum

More on this krater here.
Sosias Painter, Achilles binding Patroclus's wound, 6th C. BC, cup, Antikensammlung, Berlin (note the delicate genitals and tracery of veins on P's foot; note also P's beard which shows that he is the elder of the two)

And here's the same cup in glorious colour:

More ancient Greek vase paintings of Achilles and co here.
And now for something more modern, to wit Ingres, Achilles receiving the ambassadors of Agamemnon, 1801 (the ambassadors from left to right are Odysseus, Phoenix and hunky Ajax; Briseis is in the background left)

Makes quite a nice change from the old Brad / Garrett, eh?

Date: 2004-09-03 12:02 pm (UTC)My comment on Brad/Garrett is not heresy. Note that I say that these images 'make a nice change'. I do not say they should replace!
Variety, spice, life, et cetera.
Oh, and penises.
