I am quite happy now. I have acquired another beta and now I have two for the HP fic (plus a trusted canon comber). So something good has come out of mistakenly posting a rather brutal teaser fragment after all!

Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] ukcalico, [livejournal.com profile] natasha1805 and [livejournal.com profile] lazlet! Thanks also to [livejournal.com profile] resonant8 for initial ruminations.

(Well, if you can't post a fic - because no more teasers - post an author's note! And, as I have learned from the teaser debâcle: even Headers need to be betaed! Well, mine do, at any rate.)

I am glad this all worked out. I am wholly aware of what happened with the K/D and -- although I stand by everything I said about it [which includes that there was never anything wrong with the actual quality of the writing] -- would never want you to go through a long drawn out fic writing process and end up despondent in any way. I do think that part of the problem is not having had someone to ruminate about the fic to over the last while, which -- when you are immersed in something so much -- can be somewhat isolating. Anyway, am still looking forward to it very much.

Talking of rare pairs, have you read A Cactus Where Your Heart Should Be yet? Wonderful stuff!

Oh, and, we must arrange to meet!! I miss having you ramble at me. ;)

Yes, let's do soon! Semester starts next week so maybe in about 2-3 weeks?? Will check diary. I'd be up for the Wagamama with the cute waitress again. ;-) And thanks for the recs! I haven't been reading much lately due to rl busy busy, and in HP you've actually got to search for fics which is time-consuming. Also, are now in mayhem re son's secondary schooling: must choose by November and the 'choice' is between crap school 1 or crap school 2 or 10,000,000 pounds per day private school that should be a grammar school but was taken away from Us The People by Evol Labour government in the 70s! (*rants*)

Um, there was a point to this comment somewhere but it escapes me now.

Oh, I just remembered the point: Tonks! Can she change her sex at will??

As far as I remember, in canon Tonks never changes sex. In fanon, however, this is sometimes the case especially when people fancy some post-OotP Remus/Sirius or Sirius/Harry.

I think you could safely make a case for a sex change if you want to and not get any complaints.

Tonks plays a role in my fic but I hadn't thought to change her sex. It's just that someone somewhere suggested this and I was confronted with my bottomless ignorance of canon so thought I'd better make sure. :-)

Relax, Natashachen.

I got your text and was about to respond. Yes, very worrying and very upsetting. She posted about it a few weeks back when the original diagnosis came through. I can't begin to imagine how she feels. We can only hope that the mastectomy has caught all the cancer although I imagine she'll be having some other treatment as well, radium or chemo. A horrible thing to go through, for all of them.

Oh great- you LIKE the whip. *puts it and sexy policeperson outfit with tall black boots and tiny black hot pants away* I'll try to remember to remain nauseatingly sweet at all times, even in the face of Portugese thingies I can't find on my keyboard.

I went to a special html page in order to get these. *looks smug*

Basically, it's the ampersand & at the beginning and the semicolon ; at the end. After the ampersand comes the letter you want to change, like a u or an a. Then comes a special shorthand word for what you want to do to it, like uml for umlaut or cedil for cedilla.

So to get ü, you type: &_u_uml_;
(all one word)
And for ç, you type &_c_cedil_;

Isn't this fun?

Oh, I remember, you showed me these once for the umlaut and I wasn't smart enough to figure it out! Maybe I thought you were joking about the semi-colon. ;-)
